Build Log for Liege Helmet
« on: Jun 06, 2023, 10:24 AM »
Finally finished the printing of my helmet, still need to sand out some of the worst layer shifts. I've got the padding temporarily installed, still trying to work out a cooling system. Suggestions and advice are welcome and appreciated.

More smoothing, definitely. Any little layer lines left will show through the paint.

I'll be using the Liege too. I've decided to punch a hole in the back wall where the ventslots go before I print it. I'm also hollowing out the back of the ventslots themselves; that way, the ventslots can actually function as vent slots. I was considering doing something similar with the earcaps; they are almost the right shape to put 5015 blower fans in, not that I would want those that close to my ears, but hey, it might not be that loud. We'll see.

I've been doing a lot of sanding on this, these pics were taken shortly after I got it off the build plate and filled in a few bad areas around the visor. Hodayc, you and I seem to be on the same wavelength since I'm planning to hollow out where the vents go as well. Think it might be a good place to install some fans as well.

It would've saved you a little filament and print time if you had hollowed the file before you printed. That way you wouldn't end up biting into the infill of the model when you post-process these mods. I'm sure there are ways to fix the surface if you have to cut deeply after printing anyways. If you used enough walls, you can always try tearing the infill structure out of the model wherever you need to; if you didn't use the alternate-wall command in Cura, it should come out fairly easily with pliers.

I'll post a picture of what I did with the model once I find a snapshot; I took one a while back, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.
