i took a robot toy chest plate and riot shield and made a back plate (its a little rough right now....need to sand it.)

It's got potential...but yeah, that really needs a TON of sanding work.  How did you attach the two pieces?  I would have cut into the shield so the two sat flush together than used a 2 part epoxy and some strips of plastic (even plastic you cut off the sheild) to glue the two portions together.  Then you'd only have to use a tiny bit of bondo to close up the seam.

I'd also wait on painting anything until you get your stuff sanded...otherwise the paint job is wasted because you'll have to sand through the paint to knock the bondo down and then repaint it AGAIN.

Nice start, but still needs a lot of sanding.  A good rule to follow is to try to use as little bondo as possible, and never use it as a glue, it's only job is a filler to smooth imperfections.

Yea....I found this out after I used it as a glue.

Go get a pack of metal files.  That will help make short work of the sanding.  An electric sander is great...but is really suited for minor sanding jobs.  You really need to knock that bondo down.

yea. im going to stop with the bondo for a while. i used it one day and couldnt stop. it was incredable armor momentum. but i used a lot. now i need to borrow a friends screw driver so i can drill some hole and put in some screws to my gun and backplate.
