My Female Crusader Armor!
« on: May 19, 2010, 04:25 PM »
Hello!

Well, it's a long story about this set of armor. My friend (Lenet) convinced me to start designing and making some armor with her, but I wasn't sold on the whole deal till I came across Crusader Era Armor!!!!!! (Insert fangirling here) And now I have my sketches and my patterns worked out. I've even traced the armor pieces out on some Sterilite! But I would like some opinions on whether or not my design is really true to the Crusader "look" before I cut out the pieces. I'd appreciate some feedback from you all!

Thanks!

This color scheme seems appropriate for the time period, but I'm not sold on it. I don't know about the stripes and the tri-color design.

And the purple was my original color idea. But I don't think it fits quite as well. However, I think maybe its layout works better for the time.

Thanks again!  :)

looks good to me! i love the layered look on the torso area! that seems to be getting more and more popular with crusaders...
The brass knuckerls look good.

You might want to try making the shins, and the knee pad all one peaice, cuz right now it looks like mondern area set up..
Instead of a cape, you might want to think about doing some kind of jetpack/armored backpack cuz hoses are highly recommended for crusaders here are the guidelines for all the ears

From what i can see, the rest looks fine! although, what are your plans for the boob plate? maybe think about useing a female chest protector for fencing, that will give you the single plate, but 2 boobs look  :D

I like it ;D. Personally, I'd say take the purple, but add the forearm spikes from the yellow/green concept. Vests aren't strictly necessary for crusader era, so you could attach the torso plates with a sort of harness system. Even better, if you could make an armor harness with leather or faux-leather straps, it'd add a nice touch.

Thanks for the info, everybody. No, I HATE pink-- as in, it's like garlic to a vampire when I wear it. So no worries about "Pink Barbie Princess Mando."  ;D But now I'm in doubt, because I had just told myself to go with a revised gold and silver look with green accents, and yet the purple seems to be the more popular choice. Oh, well! I'll figure something out!  :D And thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to post some pattern pictures in a short while, so you'll be able to get the feel of the actual armor on my body, then. It doesn't look quite so spread out on a normal person's proportions. This sketch is just an Amazon woman.  :P

Well, that's what happens when you're poor and unskilled in the arts of Photoshop.  ;)

So, here's an update! *Music that sounds rather like "Prince Ali" from Aladdin*

This is what my paper pattern looks like thus far. My friend Lenet helped me tape on the patterns, and for that I am deeply indebted to her, because there was no possible way for me to stick all those pieces on by myself!

The first pic here is the overall look of the armor (well, one side of it, at least). You would be able to see the segmented pieces a lot better if I had used different paper for each piece, but I was trying to be resourceful and recycle, so...

On the whole I think the pieces fit well together and are evenly proportioned.

The next two pics are the leg pieces, obviously.  :D

I think somebody said I needed to attach all my leg pieces together, but when you actually see them on they look a lot more close together than on the Amazon drawing. Still, if you think it needs to be changed, I'm open to suggestions.

Back Piece--

I might need to angle the corners a bit, yes?

The next two, again, are of the upper torso/arm pieces. As you can see, there is no hard chest piece as of yet, but there will be once we get some packing tape.  ;)

Personally, I think the top pieces look really amazing.  :)

That's all for now, folks!

Oh! I almost forgot! The gray piece on my knee is actually the first piece of Sterilite armor! I mean, ahem, Beskar'gam, of course.

Thanks!

Not too shabby ;D. From a comfort standpoint, you might want to take a scoop out of the upper inner corner of the thigh and cut down the bicep armor just a bit. Try mocking them up out of cardboard, rather than paper, as it'll give you a more realistic impression of how they'll fit and move when made out of plastic than the paper will.
