Hello, guys!

Sorry I took so long to post anything, I have been working on the armor, but I haven't had time to put it up here. I've been pretty busy lately (college Statistics, anyone?) so I haven't had the chance to work on the armor much. But I do have some progress pics now!

The Knee Plates:

Those were the first two pieces. Next come the ab plates:

Lenet and I were going to start in on the back plates when--our first armor-making disaster struck!

Back Plates A and B were, sadly, decimated by the broiler setting on my toaster oven. However, we had enough excess plastic left to reform another two pieces, and finished the back.

That was all four plates. The next pic is a closeup of the indentations we made to the centers of the plates for a spine look.

And, finally, our progress thus far--

Front:

Back:

Some more good news: I bought my spray paint about a week ago! I can't wait to make my leg plates and shoulder plates, because then I can start the paint job! Woo-hoo!

Thanks! Shins

Hello!

So I've made four more pieces of my armor! I'm nearly there! All that's left is my bicep plates and my shoulder pieces.

Yesterday Lenet and I made my two thigh pieces and my shin plates.

We had some trouble figuring out the temperature and time for the larger oven (since the pieces wouldn't fit in the toaster oven), but we worked it out:

After one trial run in which we melted the material to slag, we got the first plate right:

And here's what did: Thigh plates and shin plates. The knee plates, of course, were already made.

I'm really quite excited about this project! Pretty soon, it'll be time to paint!

Thanks!

i can't really tell from the angle, but the shins and thighs look like they could use a little more bending in them

Oh, yeah, believe me, we did our best, but they were really hard to bend. I think once I get my under-armor and combat boots on, they'll look right. From that angle they look a little  less curved than they actually are, too.  :)

I shall pass on sage advice given to be by the great armorer Beviin Varhyc; blunt the corners just a bit on those plates. It's a good way to show use and wear, and to make it seem as if it has been made using actual armor materials, rather than plastic. If you just take a little sandpaper to each corner for not even a minute or so, it should do the trick. Plus, less uncomfortable if you bend the wrong way and your armor plate pokes you :P.

I'd also say take a scoop out of the top inside corner of the thigh plates, but you plan on a loin cloth, rather than a cod piece, yes?

Even with a loincloth I'd suggest it. You start walking and find things smack together that you never would have thought about. (I say this as somebody who spent the entire D*Con parade last year trying to walk and keep the insides of my shin plates from smacking each other every time I took a step.)

Lol okay, I will sand the corners, guys, thanks for the suggestion. That's a good idea. But I'm not sure what you mean about the thigh plates. Could you explain just a little more? And yes, I plan to have a loincloth.

Something like that. Just those inside corners on the top of the thighs.

Oh, okay. Makes a lot of sense.  ;) I'll see what I can do. Oh, and good news, everybody! I'm already working on my weapons, too! I might post a couple pictures of those soon and show the progress.
