Loincloth question
« on: Jun 10, 2010, 08:01 PM »
Ner vode,

Just a thought, and I'd appreciate your input... I'll be having a new vest made, and since I'm also considering using a loincloth, could these two be made into a single piece? My belt would go over the waistline and make it look like two items.

Below is a rough sketch of my idea; any thoughts?

Cheers!

That'd work perfect actually, like you said, just hide it with a girthbelt/ammo belt.  That will prevent it from slipping down.  I might have to do this for my kama.

Bazii Malric on here has a kit with a vest that has a neckseal and loincloth built in... He made it himself, so talk to him if you'd like.

My vest, kama, and loincloth are all connected, and my V2 vest and loincloth are connected.  As pictured, it'll absolutely work with a girth belt.

And while we're on the subject of loincloths...please folks, put them UNDER your belt, not hanging OVER your belt.  Hanging over you look like a football player with a towel tucked in his waistband. :D

Attaching the loincloth to the vest is a very novel idea.  Once the belt is on you'll never know and keeps you from loosing pieces.

To back Tag's statement up: Think of it like the little hanging flap on an early flak vest, or on a modern bomb disposal suit.  It's not a loincloth as in piece of underwear, it's a loincloth because it hangs in front of your loins. The underwear type only goes over a belt because the part that goes between your legs and up the back goes under the belt.  Mando'ade do not wear our underwear on the outside.  We are not Superman.  We are infinitely more badshebs.

Yes, that's my point exactly! One less thing to worry about.

What you guys say about joining the vest / neckseal / loincloth / kama sounds very interesting... almost a completely new item!

Cheers!

I After deciding to attach my neckseal I immediately thought of a loincloth instead of the standard cod piece.  I also decided that having the loincloth attached to the vest would save the logistical problem of finding a reliable way to have the loincloth stay put...  especially since I plan on attaching armor plates to it in the very near future.  Besides I did base my design off the modern bomb disposal suit...  handy since my mando is into demolitions  ;D

The material is duckcloth with twill inside layer.  For the design I made it by simply tracing an old vest I had onto the duckcloth with chalk and adding to it some extra fabric for the front and back to be a bit longer like the bomb disposal vest style.  Originally I had made the vest out of twill but I decided the duckcloth looked better so I added the duckcloth onto that twill vest I had made and here it is.  Both sides are open under my arms with closures.  I originally had the parachute buckles on the inside but they proved too much of a pain in the shebs.  I changed that and I put the buckles on the outside with high quality elastic running underneath my backplate and the vest fits nice and tight...  and most importantly I can move and breathe in it still.   lol   ;)

I hope that helps ya.  Here are some pics to illistrate my design for you to see as well.  Note these are taken before my upgraded closures but they show the loincloth and neck seal design integration.

My vest by itself:

Me wearing it with just the armor plates on:

Me with all the layers on for the full kit look.  Notice the girthbelt kinda hides the fact that it is integrated.

In my opinion, you might look at making a few tweaks to the full kit:

The girth belt could stand to be a bit thinner. You could almost make it half as thick and have it look good. It stands out quite a bit being the thickness it's at now. If you thin it down, and move the black belt up to the middle of the girth belt again, it'll also help your legs to look a bit longer.

The rest of it looks pretty bad-a if you ask me. You've done a stellar job on it. Any shots of the back?
