For the neo a cowl will not work. The royal guard helmet is the shape your looking for, but the helmet itself needs to be of a soft material (as cannon references show the helmets bend and twist) with a hard mask for the face.

MEreel.,.. What you just decribed is what is commonly called a cowl! lol! XD

If you check out Jaiden Turr'n Verda's helmet thread here that should give you a solid idea of how to work out the helmet.

As per the CRLs, you should have a hard helmet that just covers your head, with a hard face mask and a soft, cloth-like cowl that extends down to cover your neck, more or less overlapping the uppermost parts of your chest and back. Now, you could possible work it out so that the cowl is stiff enough around the head to forgo the full helmet underneath, but I'm not sure how well it would work out. When Jaiden was working on his build, several of us sorted through pretty well every available picture of Neo-Crusader helmets in the ever to determine how to make it as accurate as humanly possible, and our conclusion pretty much was for a hard helmet, hard mask and soft cowl.

That said, I'm very interested to see what you come up with here. Several people have begun Neo-Crusader costumes, but no one has fully finished one. A few have come close, but you know what they say; "close only counts in horse shoes, hand grenades and various Weapons of Mass Destruction" ;D.

Good luck, vod'ika ;).

I have a very solid idea of what I am aiming for. The issue I am having is it says hard inner and soft outer. While this may be the case, going with this aspect it will not allow for a plyable cowl look/feel. I have ideas for any of the methods I need to use. I have seen pepreka(sp) files helmet and while it looks cool, it just seems too stiff to fit the CRLs. I will have a prototype by next week if all goes well.

For some reason when he said cowl, i was thinking more along the lines of a baliclava, which will not work. As long as the cowl has volume, stemming from something like a wire frame, and doesn't have its shape determined by resting against your head like a hood, it can work. thats the trick to this build, you essentially have to build a soft royal guard helmet.

Manakari, im interested to see what your working on. I've always steered clear of this build because of the helmet.

YEah... I'd love to build a Neo, but I can't figure out the cowl, so i've not yet done it.

Now is the perfect time of year to pick one up  ;). I have it worked out as of this morning due to an epiphany I had last night. Should have pics up by Wed. if I can track down all my materials.

Here is my helmet base.

You can see the silver lines where I intend on cutting to place the visor. This helmet will have the ability to raise the face plate above the head without removing the entire helmet.

Here is the base for the face plate. It will require some bondo work of course.
