Well, Danny and I talked about it, they only were cut apart because they were just too small on my chest, so we're going to attach them and the chest diamond to a small plate behind it to give me more rib space. Although I am planning to do a small version of the Legacy abs, maybe even shins too. I just haven't had much time to work on them as of late.

Well whatdya know I have pics i haven't posted yet!!!

I was able to get some major work done on the chest plates, like getting them traced out using a method i saw on the boards:


Then with a little help from the boyfriend, got them cut out. I did most of it, here he's just finishing it up


And here they are cut out! He later went back and cut out the marked off parts for the chest diamond


Now for a test fit. The only reason i cut them apart is because the rib size of the mannequin is not realistic in any way so it did not work with me. We're going to attach them to another piece of plastic, maybe sintra, and the chest diamond to make it one solid piece.


Finals are almost over, and with that hopefully more progress will be made!

Yay, progress! (I'm the one who was creepin' on your gaunts ) Sadly enough... I never would have thought of that method for tracing, or even thought of looking for a method at all. Nice find!

Haha, it's ok. When you find a good source of info, you tend to get the most you can from it. this is certainly the case for my boyfriend XD

Anyhoo, I had seen this method in another femmando's posting, but i don't remember exactly who it was...i don't think i saved the book mark, dang it. But from what i can recalled, she made them too long so she ended up having the boob right in the middle of a long section of body. it looked weird. I had to tape down the pieces and trace with a marker to get it right then see what was uneven and trim some more. I'm slightly meticulous

As you can see, the ends seem really long, but it could just be the way the picture is sized. It all depends on your mannequin

That is a pretty awesome technique.  I know you said you didn't invent it, but it is smart to try that tracing method out. I know so many people have trouble when making female styled armor.  Very cool.

Whoa time for an update!

So Phx Comicon is only two days away and thus my boyfriend and i have made major progress on my armor, sadly with no pics to post at the moment. But i have all the rest of my plates cut out, just need to be sanded, fitted, painted and attached!!! so much to do.....so little time. we'll see how this goes

I know you're all excited, but a word of advice, DON'T rush it. If there are other Clan members there, i'd suggest you wrangle for them instead, they would appreciate it .

Thanks Remo, those are almost the exact words my boyfriend told me yesterday  I at the very least want to *try* and get something done. But yes, like a quote from toy story 2 "You can't rush art".

Very true, you can't rush art. But, the last thing you want is to go to a convention and find things falling off or paint rubbing off quicly because it hasn't had time to cure, all because you've rushed. So, just slow down, take your time and get it right. And trust me, there's always another convention .

Yes, we decided yesterday there's no point in rushing. But I will at the very least have my helmet done to display in our Star Wars Neighborhood...mostly so i can try and get it signed by Jeremy Bulloch on sunday  Besides in AZ there are PLENTY of other troops coming this year, this i know. So more pics will come after con when i have something to show.

Wow, has it been that long already? Geez.

Well, I have amazing news. 1) Got to meet Jeremy Bulloch, he's so sweet! He signed my helmet I'll put up better pics on my bucket wip.


2) I got the chance to kit up!!! One of Hammer's daughters let me borrow her kit, and OMG it was amazing!!! needless to say I was fangirling the whole time I wore it. It was a good way to practice how to act at events, and motivate me to get my own kit done. I even surprised Danny when he was in line to meet Jeremy! And I got the bucket I was borrowing signed too. win-win!!!
 


3) FINALLY I have my armor cut out, shaped and primed!!! I got as much as i could out of the lid of the tote, all I needed was the shins from the main bin.

I got way more pieces out of it then shown here, but just to give an idea of space.

There's a small crack in one of the shoulder bells as well as some melt damage I sanded off. I trimmed off about 1/2" off the sides of the shins, cus they seemed too big on my legs.
Next step, colors and strapping/attaching!

Excellent!   Do you guys have a chest diamond?  You really pulled off Gabby's armor nicely.  Keep at it Angela, and you will have a kit of your own.

I still need to figure that part out, Daniel had the idea of connecting the chestplates with another piece of sintra, but I don't think it'll be necessary. I do have his old chest diamond, but I'll have that somewhere on my belt as a memoir for my persona. I'll see if i can get a good one from either the sterilite or the sintra pieces he has left.

So I have pictures to post, but for some reason Photobucket is not cooperating with me for the time being. I will post them once it decides to work, for now here are the updates!

First, I received my new coveralls in the mail a week ago, tried them on in a geeky joyful frenzy and found they are a bit big...I need to hem the sleeves and legs, but how short should they be?

Second, I have FINALLY started to paint my armor! Some pieces still need to get shaped or remade (stupid shoulder bell broke), but the collar and breastplates are painted the base coat of blue. Then I realized I have to paint the white on next...that will take a few coats to do, then the black. Hopefully I can get the rest of the things painted this week.

I want to be close to official before I go back to school....which is on 8/23...CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Looking great! I prefer the mannequin plates to plates shaped in other ways. I simply think they look better.

w00t! Awesome work! If you want, take in your flightsuit. I took mine in on the limbs and I am so happy with it. All I did was put on my flightsuit inside out, had my mom pin in where I wanted it, then sewed it and it was done!
