I see so many people that think 'well, I've got kids now, can't have fun and costume anymore' so it's really inspiring to see you doing this. And his kit looks awesome! Great work!

We like to say the family that troops together stays together    Josh is my little cousin, not my son, but I do love him and try to have fun with him and be a positive influence. Thanks for the compliments on his kit.

That's what this forum is all about.  We come up with new ideas and share them with each other so others can use that idea as well. I did not invent the cup idea, but it a brilliant idea.  If your forearm can fit in a cup, then go for it.

Here is a pic from our most recent event.  I hope to get more up soon.  Josh got hot so he took off his helmet, but he currently has a mohawk so his hairstyle works with being without the helmet.  I am so happy with his kit and he loves trooping.  He just heats up so fast even with 2 helmet fans.  Poor little guy.  Hopefully the fall or winter time will be easier to troop with him since the outside temp will be cooler.

Thanks!  The event was at one of the libraries and I believe they are going to send me more pics from the event. I hope to get an actual full body pic of him with the helmet on so we can see him from head to toe.  He is growing so fast.  One day I will have to totally make a new kit. Little Mandos are awesome

Thanks everyone for the compliments.  I just wish I could actually get him official, but it's ok I understand the legal issues with youth members. I still love his kit and made it with CRLs in mind.

I say go for it. Your little cousin will love you forever for making him a kit. It can be something you two bond over. We can never have enough kids in Mando. Lol. I love pics of all child Mandos.

The last event I took Josh to, he was already showing signs of growing out of his kit.  So my sister and I made his vest adjustable by adding straps and buckles down both sides of his vest. We also made it possible to open up the vest at 1 shoulder instead of pulling it over his head as one piece.  I riveted some adjustable straps to his greaves and we made a longer sash since he is growing.  Those fixes solved the problems we had and now his kit is adjustable and can last a bit longer until he has some huge growth spurt.  I am happy that he can still fit it and wear it for a little while longer.    The first weekend in November, I took Josh to his first con down in Tucson, Arizona. He had a good time, enjoyed folks wanting pics of him, liked all the other costumes, and loved the cool toys.   Here are some pics from the event.

If I may, I love the binoculars, but they seem a bit blocky. Check out Mereel's in Wampa Clan. I trooped with him recently, and they are SEXY. I was drooling over them the entire time.

The Mohawk is crazy cool. But, I think it's better when it's not gelled up. The first pic with it was AWESOME, and it doesn't look intentional.

Oh no worries, don't feel bad. All comments are welcome with his kit and my kit as well. I love Mereel's macros. His kit is so amazing and my original idea was going to make Josh's armor look like Mereel's. But then I went a different route, but Mereel was inspiration for sure. I agree the macros are blocky. I had so much trouble trying to make templates. I was trying to give them a less blocky look but all my prototypes failed. So instead of going crazy out of frustration  and scrapping the macro idea completely, I decided to make what you see pictured.  They are not perfect, but I am happy with them. If I make another set, I will try to make them better.

As far as his mohawk, the earlier pics have his hair slighty grown out over a week or two. In the new pics, his dad had just cut and trimmed his hair the night before. Honestly, I wish his parents would cut his hair and keep it short and simple, but I am just his cousin and have no say.  I will admit the only time I like his mohawk (natural or gelled up) is when he is in his kit. So go figure. Lol.  I am just happy Josh wanted armor and wants to troop with me. That makes me so proud of the little guy and it makes me so happy.

Do you have a bell sander? If you do, I'd say just grind down the edges until they're sleeker.

I used to hand sand everything until recently. I just got a palm sander a few months back and that rocks, but no belt sander.  Also the macros are made out of thick craft foam. I covered the foam in Modge Podge to sturdy it up and seal it. I am actually surprised it worked. They are just bolted on so I can remove them and redo them. One day I will remake them with sintra.
