That's A LOT of pouches! :O

I think the chest armor needs to be brought up a bit,  and the two chest pieces need to be trimmed, cause it has to line up with the collar.

But, that's my unprofessional 2 cents. :P

That is a lot of pouches, I'll need to make sure I have room for holsters! My chest pieces have since been trimmed, and the armor looks well and dandy when it's put on correctly. I want to do some gaunt and or shnee work before I post another armor pic though, but it will all be well in place before any pictures are taken.

Oh, and another thought. I'm thinking about completely abandoning the cod in favor of a loincloth type deal. I have the feeling that a well fitted cod piece will only inhibit my movement, and seeing as how I'm going for an assassin build, that doesn't seem like the best idea. Haven't completely decided yet, but the thought is certainly there.

I lucked out with my cod design; it sits flush and doesn't stand up when I'm standing, but folds up nicely if I sit or squat. Yours looks like it should work like mine does if attached to a belt via belt loops on the back of it. That said, a loincloth will give you maximum mobility even beyond a well designed and fitting cod. I would keep a loincloth short though, no longer than the knees and more like mid thigh or slightly longer as you don't want it tangling around you when you move in for the kill.

I was thinking about something knee-length or similar myself, it will either match up with my kama or be just a tad bit shorter than it, we'll see once the kama gets done I suppose. I liked my cod design for a while, but the more I look at it and wear it the less I think it fits my kit. At this point I would much prefer the loincloth, and I don't think it tangling around me will be much of a problem. I took karate for over 5 years, and we had rather long belts that always seemed to dangle the ends around our thighs or knees, and I never had a problem with those. Thanks for the input though!

Thanks vod, I'm glad you think so! Are you talking in general, or is there anything specific that catches your fancy?

Real mandos wear kamas....

Indeed! I'm so excited to have  a kama on my kit, my cyar'ika actually got my measurements for it today. Right now We're planning on having it mid-calf length, I'll have small jet boosters on the back of my leg armor, so I want to keep the fabric above those!

So I don't have a whole lot to show for the past few days of work, mainly because I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on my stuff. I decided to put my ARC pauldron on hold for now, as it seems kind of bulky for an assassin build, and if I'm going to do an ARC pauldron, I kind of want to do the full mantle, which will just look more out of place, aside from the fact that I'll have no room for it. So I cut out a copy of the pauldron I already have designed, and I'll be adding a bit more depth to those soon.

I did manage to gut my pistol though! Here's the before and after of it:

Before:

After:

I'll be adding bits of black sintra behind where the orange used to be, give it kind of a venty look. I'll be replacing the top barrel with some PVC pipe I have lying around, maybe give it kind of a beefy muzzle or something, not sure yet. I'll be adding a wooden dowel where the bottom barrel used to be, and I'll drill a small hole into the bayonet to insert said dowel to secure the bayonet to the pistol. I do need to do a bit more work to the bayonet to give it  a better fit, but that's where it stands as of now.

The blastsword has been worked on a bit, just a little sanding here and there, I need to get to it and just sand the edge into the blade and the guard. Truth be told, I've been helping Cinciri Ramser out with building his sniper, and that's taken up a bunch of my time in the shed as of late. It's turning out well, aside from the router bit we broke, and I'm more than happy to lend him a hand!

Also, I went paint browsing at Home Depot, and I think I struck gold, but I just wanted to check with the experts first.

My armor is going to primarily be that dark red, "saret wine" color, with various details and patterns in the black and granite colors. I was wondering if the satin (and flat for the black) finishes would be ok. You'll also see the gray primer and the metallic aluminum, I figured that the primer would be my base coat, then I'd hit it with aluminum to give it a metal look for weathering. Then would come the gray and black for details, red to give the body color once said details were taped off, then a clear Matte coat to finish it off. I haven't bought the stuff yet, and I know I kind of sound paranoid, I just want to make sure I get the right stuff!

Thanks for the tip Dresdon, though I wasn't really planning on adding Krylon to the mix with Rustoleum. Those are all the colors I'll need for my kit.

Youre going to nee dsome more modding on that gun to pass muster. Per the CRL's all screw holes need to be filled and smoothed. If there are any raised or embossed warning, logos, copywrites they have got to go as well. I would add some greeblies or scopes to it as well to hide it's origin a bit more and bring it more into that "chunky greeblied" 70's future tech look.

Thanks Falin, and I'm well aware that it's going to need some mods. Screw holes and seams will be filled once I'm done messing with the barrels. I lucked out in the fact that there's no copyright or warning labels on the pistol, and any text that is on it is just painted on. I don't think I'll be adding any scopes or anything to it, but I'll definitely be adding greebs to it, and I might even add some sintra on the outside of it to give it more of a boxy, angled look to it. My original intent was to make it look more like a heavy pistol anyway, and it'll need some beefing up for that.

Thanks for the references Dresdon, I'll certainly have to take a few cues from these when the time comes to greeb up my pistol. Speaking of which, here's a small progress report on it:

I gutted a few more of the non-essential plastic pieces on the inside of the pistol to make room to mount a larger PVC barrel and a dowel to mount my bayonet. The dowel is about as thick as the bayonet, and I had to sand it down a tad so that I could drill a hole into the bayonet that wouldn't tear the thing apart. The topmost section of the bayonet did crack just a bit, though I'm not too concerned, as that section will probably be covered by sintra before long. I might dab some wood filler on it just to be safe though.

I have to say, I do like the extended barrel look of this thing. The parralel sillouette with the bayonet just appeals to me. Anyway, The barrel has already been trimmed by about half an inch or so since this picture, since I would still like the bayonet to look like it could be used for stabbing as well as chopping. However long I do decide to make the barrel, the upper body section of the pistol will be replicated with sintra a bit to give it a beefier, heavy pistol look. the exposed dowel mount for the bayonet will also likely be covered up. I'm really excited to see how this thing turns out.

I also got some more work done on my blastsword today, mainly blade sanding, nothing noticable enough to really warrant another picture, so I'll wait until the guard is pretty much finished before I post anymore of that.

And I have decided to finally get off my shebs and start putting together and bondoing my helmet this week. I ordered a visor from T-visor.com, as well as a sheet of red acetate to give line the outside of it with to pull off my red visor effect that I so dearly want.  Those should be here within the week, but until then, let me just go over the order of helmet operations one more time.

First, glue helmet together with very strong glue (suggestions?)
Second, apply bondo to all the seams on the outside, especially the dome of the helmet.
Third, sand it smooth. I picked up 3 packs of sandpaper the other day (80, 120, and 220 grit) I'm assuming I use the rougher grits to even most of the bondo out, then use the smoother grits to really smooth it out. I've also heard multiple times that wet sanding is a good idea, I'd appreciate if soemone wanted to explain that process to me.
Fourth, Paint? As you can see above, I think I have a pretty good understanding of the painting process, but that's just because no one's really pointed out to me if I was wrong or not, lol!

I do apologize for all the questions, and I appreciate that you guys put up with them.

JB weld can bond PVC, Bondo, Plastic, metal, and ABS very well, you could glue those in with JB if you want, and sicen that's a hollow gun you could have the inside painted silver, and have a clear tube in there that perhaps lights up?

WETSAND:
{ tan-1 sandpaper[x2>(y=7/19 x-47.135 )(icecream bucket of water2x3.141592654) ] }=(smooth bondo yds-1 ) 3

-in other words, stick your sandpaper in water, sand that thing, regularly cleaning the sandpaper off in water, eat some pie after 5 hours of wetsanding, get abck to work wetsanding, and eventualy youll have a smooth helmet with minimal dust, and if you do as much wetsanding as I ahve your driveaway will ahve a large pinish/red streak of bondo dust for the rest of the tim period until the next rainfall.

Thanks Dresdon, your help is proving invaluable to my build. Your Wetsanding equation did give me a bit of a scare though, especially since I had literally JUST finished a marathon of Statistics homework. Though after the intitial shock, it was hilarious!

So JB weld will work for both my pistol and my helmet then? How long does it take to dry? Or does that depend on what version of it I buy?

My original plan for those pistol vents was to lay some strips of sintra on the inside so that I still had the vent texture, but there wasn't a gaping hole in my gun. I've been thinking about putting some lights both in my pistol and my blastsword, I'll have to give my neighbor who does some lightwork for Disney a call and tap into some of his knowledge. I should have some left over red acetate sheet from my visor, I could probably put strips of that instead of sintra. Now forgive the noobish question, but would painting the inside silver help with any light effects I put in?

And one last stupid question: Should the bondo wetsanding be done at any specific point in the sanding process, or can it be done from start to finish? I'm assuming this is going to be a time-consuming process, but from what I've heard it will be worth it.

JB Qwik-set takes 4-10mins, so I suggest Ethyl2 Cyanoacrylate adhesive, their like $1.79 for a 2ml tube, so if you spend $20 on that stuff, you could do like...2 helmets, however-some D&D supply shops sell the glue in large 28ml bottles by Gamez Workshop, and MG CHEMICALS sells 28ml bottles of it as well, bot for about $10-$15. Read the back and make sure the warning and suff says EHTYL2 CYANOACRYLATE instead of just CYANOACRYLATE, if it ain't Ethyl2 it's no good.

And as for wetsanding, yes, it can be done for the whole proscess. It's also good at the end of the painting step wth weathering and blackwash.  Regular JB weld takes over-night(16hrs-ish) to be cured enough to "enter part back into service", and you can get $20 boxes that contain 4times the amound of the little $10 packs oif the stuff. The $20 boxes have the 2 tubes inside the size of a Bondo Spotfiller/Glazing putty tube  :o

Ethyl2 Cyanoacrylate adhesive will adhere sanded(andCLEANED) metal to bondo, plastic, and even fabric(how I got the plates onto my glvoes) very well. It's all in the prep work. I ahve glued brass greebs onto bondoglass, were it is glued so well, that I have to use a knife to pry off the piece, and it rips out a crator of bondoglass underneath it :o   If you can get gelled, it would work best, but you'll also need to 'glass the inside of your hlmet for amximum strength.

Alright, so I grabbed myself some JB KwikWeld yesterday. I'm gonna do some light experimentation with it before I actually go to glue my helmet together, because I'm paranoid like that. Here's a pic just so that we're clear wether or not I grabbed the right stuff for the job of gluing my helmet together:

I'm assuming this stuff will also work for gluing my pistol together. Though I am curious: Would the Ethyl2 Cyanoacrylate adhesive Dresdon mentioned work just as well for both jobs?

I also grabbed some gloves from Lowes the other day that almost perfectly match my color scheme. that plus the fact that they looked cool meant that I had to have them, of course!

Aside from the various tags and such that have already been removed, the above picture points out the only trouble spots that will have to be dealt with. I'm thinking that I'll either sand the text areas down with a dremel or I'll cover it up with a hand plate, or some combination of the two. I'm also thinking about cutting the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the gloves down to half of my finger, just because it will vastly improve my functionality in said gloves, and I won't be taking them off every time I need to do something delicate. That, and because I've always liked that style of glove for some reason.

I'll have more to show on here soon, I've mad some progress on my weapons, and I actually started my guantlets!
