Sounds cool, I have yet to look into that, though I probably should!

I'll probably start a separate build thread for this blastsword soon, but I thought I would post the gist of my progress on it here first, since I'm pretty much building the functionality of my kit around this weapon.

So here's what it looks like as of this morning:

The main body of it is 1/2" MDF, a little over 42" long, give or take. For the barrel I took a 1" PVC pipe and dremeled a straight 1/2" line down the length of it, and the muzzle is two different PVC couplings put together. I haven't weighed it yet, as there would be no point with all of the changes that are being made to it, but it's got some heft to it, although it is still plenty light enough for me to swing around comfortably. The grip is a little weird at first, but after a couple of sword sets it felt comfortable enough.

There's a better look of the tip for you. I had to take a chunk of the tip out so that the PVC couplings would fit on correctly. It still needs a few tweaks here and there, and there might be a small gap I'll need to fill prior to painting, but it all fits pretty well.  That larger coupling that you see there wasn't really designed to fit that other coupling particularly well, so it's not exactly a secure fit when it's put together, but a bit of glue and bondo should fix that. I also plan on adding a front sight to the top of the barrel. Technically the Wookiepedia page says that they only fire on contact, but I'm head-canon tweaking mine so that it can be set to fire from the trigger pull.

Now for the grip:

For the guard I'm adding a 1/4" thick piece of MDF to either side to give it some dimension. The top of either side of the guard will also act as the other half of the sighting system, the original 1/2" piece will be cut out so I can look right along the top of the barrel and into my front sight. I'll also smooth out where the guard meets the barrel with some bondo, so once it's finished it will look as if the guard transitions into the barrel. I plan on sanding the guard so that it all kind of angles down into an edge along the front side, lining right up with the blade.

The hammer and the trigger will also be cut out of 1/4" MDF and glued into place. I am slightly concerned with how well the trigger is going to hold up over time, since I'll probably end up using it as part of the grip when I'm walking around with it, but if something happens it won't really be hard to replace.

Also, the lines you see on the inside of the grip are roughly where I'll be adding another thin piece of wood, maybe 2 or 3 mm thick, just to help give the grip some dimension.

I'm not quite sure if I'm going to do anything fancy with the pommel, right now it looks ok and helps me point the thing one-handed by resting my forearm against it, so it does have some functionality. I just don't know if I want to make it into a spike or give it an edge or something, thoughts?

I dint know what I could suggest.
It just looks really cool. Lol
Is it like a one shot deal? Like a low caliber blaster thats used as a last resort? Or is it intended to be completely functional as a blaster as well?

According to the wookiepedia article, They're good for "20 shots per power cell". Apparently typical blastswords only fire when the tip makes contact with something, and the damage can be set to anything between stun and maim. It's also been described as a blaster that you have to hit people with.

For a better idea of what it's supposed to look like, here's about the only reference picture I can find of it:

I didn't really alter the design too much, just slimmed it down and tweaked some of the details. I didn't want to differentiate to much from the look Star Wars had in mind for it, as it's already an uncommon weapon, and I don't need to go making it completely unrecognizable!

And here's the page I got the picture from, full of all kinds of information about them:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Blastsword

Again, I'd like to imagine that mine could actually be set to fire via trigger pull instead of blade contact, though the range and accuracy probably wouldn't be too impressive, I'd imagine.

That's A LOT of pouches! :O

I think the chest armor needs to be brought up a bit,  and the two chest pieces need to be trimmed, cause it has to line up with the collar.

But, that's my unprofessional 2 cents. :P

That is a lot of pouches, I'll need to make sure I have room for holsters! My chest pieces have since been trimmed, and the armor looks well and dandy when it's put on correctly. I want to do some gaunt and or shnee work before I post another armor pic though, but it will all be well in place before any pictures are taken.

Oh, and another thought. I'm thinking about completely abandoning the cod in favor of a loincloth type deal. I have the feeling that a well fitted cod piece will only inhibit my movement, and seeing as how I'm going for an assassin build, that doesn't seem like the best idea. Haven't completely decided yet, but the thought is certainly there.

I lucked out with my cod design; it sits flush and doesn't stand up when I'm standing, but folds up nicely if I sit or squat. Yours looks like it should work like mine does if attached to a belt via belt loops on the back of it. That said, a loincloth will give you maximum mobility even beyond a well designed and fitting cod. I would keep a loincloth short though, no longer than the knees and more like mid thigh or slightly longer as you don't want it tangling around you when you move in for the kill.

I was thinking about something knee-length or similar myself, it will either match up with my kama or be just a tad bit shorter than it, we'll see once the kama gets done I suppose. I liked my cod design for a while, but the more I look at it and wear it the less I think it fits my kit. At this point I would much prefer the loincloth, and I don't think it tangling around me will be much of a problem. I took karate for over 5 years, and we had rather long belts that always seemed to dangle the ends around our thighs or knees, and I never had a problem with those. Thanks for the input though!

Thanks vod, I'm glad you think so! Are you talking in general, or is there anything specific that catches your fancy?

Real mandos wear kamas....

Indeed! I'm so excited to have  a kama on my kit, my cyar'ika actually got my measurements for it today. Right now We're planning on having it mid-calf length, I'll have small jet boosters on the back of my leg armor, so I want to keep the fabric above those!

So I don't have a whole lot to show for the past few days of work, mainly because I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on my stuff. I decided to put my ARC pauldron on hold for now, as it seems kind of bulky for an assassin build, and if I'm going to do an ARC pauldron, I kind of want to do the full mantle, which will just look more out of place, aside from the fact that I'll have no room for it. So I cut out a copy of the pauldron I already have designed, and I'll be adding a bit more depth to those soon.

I did manage to gut my pistol though! Here's the before and after of it:

Before:

After:

I'll be adding bits of black sintra behind where the orange used to be, give it kind of a venty look. I'll be replacing the top barrel with some PVC pipe I have lying around, maybe give it kind of a beefy muzzle or something, not sure yet. I'll be adding a wooden dowel where the bottom barrel used to be, and I'll drill a small hole into the bayonet to insert said dowel to secure the bayonet to the pistol. I do need to do a bit more work to the bayonet to give it  a better fit, but that's where it stands as of now.

The blastsword has been worked on a bit, just a little sanding here and there, I need to get to it and just sand the edge into the blade and the guard. Truth be told, I've been helping Cinciri Ramser out with building his sniper, and that's taken up a bunch of my time in the shed as of late. It's turning out well, aside from the router bit we broke, and I'm more than happy to lend him a hand!

Also, I went paint browsing at Home Depot, and I think I struck gold, but I just wanted to check with the experts first.

My armor is going to primarily be that dark red, "saret wine" color, with various details and patterns in the black and granite colors. I was wondering if the satin (and flat for the black) finishes would be ok. You'll also see the gray primer and the metallic aluminum, I figured that the primer would be my base coat, then I'd hit it with aluminum to give it a metal look for weathering. Then would come the gray and black for details, red to give the body color once said details were taped off, then a clear Matte coat to finish it off. I haven't bought the stuff yet, and I know I kind of sound paranoid, I just want to make sure I get the right stuff!
