Reilic's Legacy Boots and Soft Parts(WIP)
« on: Jul 06, 2012, 11:46 AM »
So, after much planning and a LOT of advice, I am finally starting my WIP threads. I'm going with a sort of what I am calling "Beach Bum Beskar'gam". It will have some influences from the Tusken Raiders. Sand is sand right... Anyway, I got my boot wraps done and my boot armor done. The armor still has to be mounted to the boots, but I am sort of stuck there. I know I could just bolt it on with no worries (other than the possibility of added difficulties putting the boots on and removing them), but my boss had the idea of making leather straps for mounting the armor in a less permanent fashion. As I pictured it in my head, I sort of thought the idea would look really cool. The plates would all be riveted to each other, but there would be a belt at the top (secured under attached loops on the top of the boot) and a strap system that would mount the bottom plate to the bottom area of the boot. I'll draw that up and post it later on. In the mean time, here is the pic of the boots as they are now, with their armor sitting beside them.

There is a bit of weathering done to the fabric and some salt stains (which you really cant see in the photo) on the boots themselves. The armor has not been weathered yet. I'm waiting for all of my armor to be done before the full weathering process.

EDIT- The wrapping is secured with E-6000 and believe me, it is most certainly a very sticky substance. Having not worked with it before, I made sure to apply plenty of pressure with my hands to the boots... and now I have nicknamed myself "Cetare’ gaan" or loosely translated from Mando'a "Boot Hands"

Lookin' good! I used straps to secure my shin/knee armor. Just a word of advice though....make sure you fasten the plates together on the sides as well as the middle. I initially just glued mine together but, that didn't hold so i riveted them down the front which didn't work out either. Another thing to consider is the open spaces on the sides of your lower legs. After I did my pre-app pics, that was something I had to correct. Check out my WIP thread and you'll see what I mean.

Ah, I see what you mean there. I got to thinking about the leather straps a bit more today and I think I have enough leather left over to make a backing piece for the shin plates and have the belts as previously discussed. So, the belts would attach to a length of leather that would stick out maybe 1/2 inch on either side of the plates. dunno yet, we'll see. For a big guy, I have sort of skinny legs and the shin plates are not bent down all the way to conform to the boot yet. Hmmm... maybe I should do that, right?!

Here it is with the armor temporarily attached

Now that I see them on the boots, they look pretty good to me. I think some rivets down the sides and some straps and you're good to go.

Got my trench coat/vest/robe thing sewn and tea washed.

Pre-Tea Washed and set with my GB flight suit for comparison. The Mando flight suit will be khaki (likely with s light tea wash as well.

And drying after the Tea Wash.

And the girth belt with ammo pouches. It closes using velcro, which is held firmly in place with E-6000. The Pouches will be secured with rivets and likely some epoxy.
