I kind of need to use the shin guards – I want to be able to take a knee, but I have a bad knee and need the extra support – with what I have planned, nothing that I didn’t create will be showing.  ;)

Got some work done on the vest – it’s like a serape tank top now

Also got some green on the torso plates. They definitely need a little dirt and grime, after I add the brown tattoos, but how do they look so far?

I think I left a little too much silver showing on the diamond.

No, that looks awesome! Raised parts like your diamond will scratch worse than others. I like the green. And the bread looks good too :P

The weathering looks a little too even along the plate edges, and too planned on the center of the plates themselves.  You've got the right idea, but vary the sizes and angles (the scratches on your chest plates are going the same direction) of the damage, not to mention types of weathering- scratches, scuffs, cuts, blaster scoring, etc.  Take some fine-grain sandpaper to a few areas, scuff it up a bit.

haha i didnt notice that. You could do the practical weathering like i did. Paint the plates, then take a dremel or a sanding brush to the plates.

I was kinda  going for that, but the execution was a bit off  :-[ - I was trying to go for the look my M4 had in Afghanistan, corners of the edges went silver, but the actual edges stayed black... it didn't quite come out the way I intended. I'm going to try some sandpaper tomorrow then possibly try the paper towel brush method like what Cyre Katsew does with his weapon mods - I wish I could work some tonight, but I gotta take a nap then go to courtesy patrol... gotta love bar hopping without the alcohol... or the fun... in work clothes  :(

Well when you put it that way.. I think watching drunk people being stupid is more entertaining than getting drunk.

And fixing the weathering is not going to be hard. After you add a few more practical scratches a long with some black and brown washing, you'll be fine. Use the edge of a metal file to get some small, wear and tear scratches that just looks like somethings rubbed against it. Or you could run the plates from some gravel and pavement.

Minor update/making sure I’m on the right track post
(been a little chilly to work outside)

I started sanding the edges a little on one plate – I have mixes feelings about it…
I’m I on the right track? I know I did a bit too much in a couple areas and went down to the white plastic. I’m more concerned with the open areas on the plate – they look a bit rough

And one that shows the unsanded with the sanded together

I started my Christmas leave today :P so hopefully I’ll get some more work done in the next 2 weeks before I have to go back to work on the 26th.

That doesn't look bad, it just looks like you took a sander to it.. It's hard to do practical weathering after painting when you don't know how it'll turn out. I would just sand the edges down and then buff out the sides. You don't want it to have that pattern of hand sanded. You're getting there!
Also, if you get down to the white plastic, you can always detail it with silver paint.

Use a low grit sandpaer, and go in small circles. That should help.

hmmm maybe just a little bit heavy  Unless you are going for Uber weathered ;)

with teh sand paper only do a few light passes, Change the grit of the papers used and dont stick to one direction do it in different directions ;)

Think about how the plates would rub together / ageist other things and do it that way ;)

If you can find the finest steel wool Home Depot has, use that to buff the edges after you've used the sand paper. That can also help in shining up the armor a little.
