Just found that toothpaste seems to work best for me... plus it leaves the plates smelly minty fresh! :laugh:

    ...now it smells like Aluminum base coat :-X



Still need to wet sand the backplate and get more primer to get a second coat of primer on it, then get the aluminum base coat on that as well!

But there is progress!! ;D

Well, not for long Vod, sorry to disappoint you, but they're going black now! ;D



First few pieces done, then I ran out of black paint! :rolleyes:
Just got another can of black, should get the other pieces (besides the backplate that I need to grab another can of primer for :P) should be done soon! ;)

Got the masking removed from the pieces I painted the other day, aaaannnd voila!


I was also able to get some more black paint and got the rest for the plates I had the silver base on masked and painted black...

I am trying a different approach on these plates since I was having the weird reaction with the black semi-gloss and the aluminum paints (which are both the same brand, RustOleum Painters Touch 2x) the black on these is just the $.98 WalMart brand paints sprayed on in alot of thin coats, and NO REACTIONS!!! :-\
Yeah, I know, the first 3 pieces were gloss black and the others are flat black (I apparently grabbed the wrong can when I was at Wally World :-[) but they are all going to be sealed with the matte clear coat so the paint underneath won't really make a difference! :rolleyes:


Still need to grab one more can of primer so I can get that second coat on the backplate and get it painted with the aluminium base coat... ???

Update time!!! ;D

So I was able to stop and pick up some primer (Decided to try the RustOleum Automotive primer this time) and got the back plate wet sanded and re-primed!

So hopefully this will have the Aluminium base coat on by the end of the weekend!   :P

And I got the orange graphics taped off and painted successfully!!!  ;)
(Look Ma... no bubbles! :P)


and with the tape removed:

Got to let them dry for a few days before adding the light scuffs/fine scratches and adding the weathering (the paint is taking longer to cure due to the temperatures around here ???)

I also got a couple other goodies in today, I'll have to get some pics later and show 'em off! ;D

Well, looks like I'm getting closer to the final assembly! 8) 

One last question to my Vode... Debating on painting the backplate orange with the black accents, as a contrast to the front plates, or should I just keep the black with orange accents??   :-\

Help please!!! ???
