Plate Sizing Help
« on: Jul 09, 2014, 05:02 PM »
I'm starting on my first kit, and I could use some input on the plate sizing. How does this look?

Thanks!

It looks like the ab plate might need to come up a bit. I could be wrong though. The plate sizes look right though.

Thanks Avidem, yeah the spacing was tough taping it by myself.

LIke Avidem said, bring the ab plate up a tad. And maybe, MAYBE, narrow down the collar and chest plates. But what you have right now looks good, the width is really just personal preference right now. :)

Cool, Thanks ThoraniosX!

No problem, vod. If you have questions about anything related to armor/prop making, feel free to shoot me a PM. I have quite the knack of coming up with new, alternative ways of doing things.

And feel free to check out my WIP: http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=73841.0 I'm VERY close to applying for OM status, so what I have should be helpful. :)

Don't get too hung up on spacing and placement just yet vod. You want size first, and sizing looks good. Now onto the next step.

And you definitely need to get a flak vest under those plates to really see how they stack up.

Again, not the most important thing. Sizing is usually done without it. Though it does help get it set.

Cut the armour slightly larger than the template, you can aleays take more off, it is harder to add more on.

I think the overall Size looks Fine ... You may need to Trim or Customize the outside edge of the Chest plates
for movement .. Then the Collar will follow Suit ... (Trimming it as well)

But for taping them on yourself you did a Great job ner'vod ...  ;)

Thanks Vod, I transferred the paper templates onto poster board, hopefully i'll get a chance to get them onto sintra in the not too distant future.  I am impatiently waiting for the flak vest I ordered from K'raam and a Headshot props bucket.

The thing to remember about the ab plate is that it should sit just above your navel.

You also need to remember that the templates can be used as a good starting point. You can pretty much tweak everything but the gaps in the armor. :)
