Darman WIP (Pic heavy)
« on: Jan 02, 2013, 08:03 PM »
So I've begun working on my first set of Beskar'gam.  :D

I haven't received the vest yet, but do the plates appeared to have formed and placed correctly? I plan to heat up the plates and form them better once I have the vest to test out how it will look. That's why I think they appear a little big in the first picture.

Also is the color scheme, of dark blue and silver, acceptable? As well as the weathering? I will turn the shoulders and probably few other peices (haven't decided yet) a reddish color.

Here it is laid out on the floor...

Critiques please!  ;D

Thanks!

I think the chest plates need to be trimmed down from the outer edges.  They look a bit wide for your frame and stick out a bit to far from under the collar.  The outer edges of the chest plates should meet the outer edges of the collar plate.  (See image below  8))

Perfectly acceptable. Be careful on placement though, don't wanna to much like Jango  ;)

While I do agree with the above that you need to do a bit of trimming and forming, I would like to correct my vod. The outer edges of collar plate and chest plates don't need to line up.

"Chest plates should not exceed 1 inch beyond edge of collar maximum." -CRLs

Also, I'm unsure on those elbow pads. I don't think they are acceptable... Regardless, the logos would need to be removed and rivet holes filled in

Even though the chest plate can exceed the collar by up to 1", those are too big for you... They do need to be trimmed...
The back plate does need forming.
The elbow pads and the other piece (on the forearms) are not acceptable as they fall in the "sports pads" category...

Oh and the color scheme is fine... Whatever you do, you'll be called Jango Fett, Boba Fett or even worse...  ;)

Kelan is correct.

The collar needs moving up and possibly shaped more. I would trim those plates to meet the collar. Chestplates also need forming more, the lower teeth parts are sticking out too far. Backplate needs forming to your back properly, and the sports armour has to go. And the logo's on the gloves will need to be removed. ;)

I know its been a while, but here is an update.

Me with most of my kit. Everything but the chest pieces are attached.

Here is a close up of the bottom:

I close up of the top:

A close up of the plates. Forgive the slight crookedness. Just a little over the 1 inch extension.

Ok vod this is what im seeing ;)

Shins and knees look too close (possibly touching) move the shins down ;)

I would move the thighs up a little bit ;) as they look close to the knees

Vest looks very baggy :( it should be quite form fitting

looks like the collar is standing up a bit may need more shaping or it could be that the neck of the vest is too big and holding it up

I really like the damage on the plates looks cool ;D

Better? Do I need to lower the Shins a little more?

Still to baggy? I tried safety pinning the excess to help it.

Thanks!!

Also a few more pics. I've added my cape and my shoulders.

You really need to have the shoes you plan to wear on. Believe it or not your shoes can effect the spacing. My guess is once those are on with the set-up your probably going to have to trim the shins as they are still to close to the knees. Crowded plates will ding you in the approval process.

Yes, unfortunately it is still too baggy. Is the closure up the back? Once I know how it is constructed I can better tell you how to fix the issues you are having.

You may also need to add some velcro to the inside bottom hem of the vest to secure it directly to the flightsuit if you are having a problem with it pulling out of being tucked under your belt.

-Also, it looks like you need to better shape the side outside corner of your right chest plate. The left plate looks to have the perfect bend to your body but the right still looks to be sticking out.

-Your ab plate needs to be straightened out and your diamond is slightly crooked.

Your doing a great job addressing the issues being brought up, I wish more people were like you! After all, the members here want to see you have the best kit you can make and see you get through on your first attempt. I take my hat off to you and keep up the great work. ;) :D

Thanks for the input! Might be a while before I can do much since school has resumed  :'(

As for the vest its one that I had purchased on the forums. Here is the link to what it looks like and the inside. They are better then the ones I took:

Also quick question: Are fingerless gloves restricted? I don't think I saw anything about them in the CRL's, but I haven't seen any worn either. Is it that no one uses them or I just missed it in the CRL's?

Do you have a seam ripper? :P
That zipper is going to need to come out and enough fabric is going to have to be trimmed off down the length of each side to pull it in closer to your body. Then the zipper will need to either be put back in or a strip of velcro sewn down the back and just have it overlap to close.

Fingerless gloves are perfectly acceptable for Modern Era. ;)

 :'(

I did like you suggested with the velcro, but I am having a tough time getting it to stick. I beganing tacking down some of the vest and not soon after broke my needle. Am I grasping for straws and just need to remove them seam? Once I finish tacking the velcro down and try pulling it in tighter I'll post some picture.

I haven't been really able to correct some of the problem since I'm back at school. I have been working though...

Here are a few more additions that I would like critiqued.

With a baklava, new gloves, and a bit more forming to the chest plates (which could probably use some more):

I very fuzzy picture of the whole kit. I shaved some more off the shins, but I guess they still look to close?

My boots. The one to the right look like it needs some more forming. Or is it just me?

More boot pictures:

Lastly, a fuzzy close-up of my gloves. Approvable?
