Oil clay. Chavant NSP Medium-Hard. Hard is hard and you'll need a crock pot to get it to work, medium too. Don't get the soft its like mush and it won't be any good for a helmet.

Also, I wouldnt touch that helmet man.

And he's right about that, but I say do what you want. Drak's Hunter helmet would also be a great base for a late crusader.

so i started my short "ripper" axe.

just getting the shape figured out, more to come. it will be segmented for the blades, and will have a little built up tip

I still think you and Mav are crazy for using real axe handles. The weight of mine is bad enough, I can't imagine the weight that will have once it's all done. But, to each their own. :-X

I'm quite fond of the axes! Lookin sharp!  ;)

I must say though, I'm not too fond of your potential visor shape. I think it's the upward point on the center, and the downward points on the T that throws me off.
