Boba Fett ROTJ Project.
« on: May 09, 2013, 10:48 AM »
UPDATE:

The project is completed, I was recently approved by the MMCC and the 501st!!! Feeling awesome about this!  8)

Hello.

I've been working on this for over 10 years, due to budget restrains and such I had not been able to make any advances on this build until recently.

I wanted to share my progress so far and see if there is any feedback from the experts.  There are some things on my build that I plan to replace eventually, like the helmet for example, mine is a Don Post (Modified) but I can't buy another right now, so I decided to paint it to the best of my abilities.  I replaced the lid for an Animefan helmet.

The blaster is a Kenner, I removed the scope and added a real scope that I feel matches the original very closely, and also added a wooden butt stock to it, it makes it only 1" shorter than the ones I've seen here, but I need to get another peace of wood to do another one a little thicker, until I can buy a real prop. And I finally could get an awesome one.

The boots are the same, I made mine at home until they can be replaced, as well as the flight suit, I think that one is good.  Replaced for MOW Boots.

Here are some pics of some of the things I am working

This is just for the JETPACKS but I thought I share one pic of the gauntlets.

Yes, you have to put it together yourself.  It took me around 9 hours and then 2 days to paint and weather it.

MLS is run by one of the members on here.  Like most makers who make multi piece molds like this he does offer an assembled kit, but it costs more.

If you enjoy the process is actually really fun.  As for the price, they are a bit expensive but well worth it.

Think you have enough snaps? You could use at least one two more,  dont want to let it move a fraction of an inch   This is looking good

 ;D

Yeah, I think I may have over done it a bit...

The idea is to distribute the pull the plates have on the vest as much as I could so that they don't look crooked, and the fact that my OCD kicks in when I am doing this things.

Make sure you plan for the circuit board(if you plan to have a circuit board) on the other chest plate before you put the snaps on.  It does take up space and can mess with the snaps.

Hello again.

A lot has happened since the last time I updated this.

I have actually finished the build but thought I would upload the progress regardless, perhaps I can get a few ideas for updates moving forward or even help others.

With that said, allow me to proceed.

Armor.  I am using RedCraytDragon's Kit.  Awesome armor, so thank you mate!

Some trimming.

Preparing the neck and back plates, adding the computer keys.

It should look something like this.

Once attached, the screws will pull both plates together.  Once I had this ready I trimmed the sides to make sure they are perfectly aligned with no excess material.

Test Drive.  The only problem is that my big fat head won't fit when assembled, so I has to be screwed in while I am wearing it.  Working on a way to correct that.

Once the buttons are sewed in, I needed a way to mark the Flak Vest in order to attach the females to the cloth, for this I used blue tooth paste and by applying the tooth paste to the buttons and then pushing the plate against the vest while wearing it I managed to mark the spots where the female needs to be sewed to match the mail on the plate.

This is how it looks.

All the little blue spots are your guides.

Test Drive.

Hello again.

I finished the build a few weeks ago and will post the rest of the pics to share.

Already submitted and got approved on the 501st and I am currently waiting for the Merc's blessing as well!

Looking forward to it!

Armor fitted, snaps are the best if you ask me.

Just making sure it stays put!

I did not add any snaps on the back plate, it is held in place by the neck piece and pushed toward my back by the Jet Pack.

Primer

Starting with the colors.

I am not detailing this process because I will upload pictures of the helmet painting process and the technique is the same, stencils, tooth paste, curses and patience.

Using the tooth paste.

End product.

Flat Clear applied.

The Lid.

It took me more than a month to finish, plus it had to remove the paint once and the helmet fell and broke in two pieces after I was done with it...

Thanks to Jules Delgado for helping me on the fix.

My lid is an Animefan.  Awesome piece of work!!!

I love this part.

First mistake, I removed the T and did not leave a little piece of on the bottom to hold the thing in place.

Buffed.

Stencils by Rafal Works!

I used Tape and Micro Mask, depending on the areas.
