Been a while since I posted here, the girth belt project is coming along. I dyed the leather with red oak wood stain. Found if I did a combination of using it straight and cut with mineral spirits some nice weathering occurred. Put two good coats of brown shoe polish on it to give a little shine and protection. Still messing with dyes for the sash cord; wood stain, used oil. I was drinking my coffee this morning and thought hmmm. Nah, too light. So, the search goes on...

So, after a drawn out debate between me,myself and I (which was eventually settled in committee ) this is what I came up with; armor and leather together. I was really pleased until realizing Boba did it first, I just did it a little bigger. The cod is done too.




With that settled I'm ready to attach the cod and kidney plates, got an idea that will keep them detachable. The cod is going the have pins that slide out to release it for paint/cleaning/repair. I'll snap pix when it's done. Kidney may be attached similarly. Think I have the cod a bit low in this picture. Tell me what you think of them.

Wow, can't believe it's been this long since I posted last. I got the girth belt dyed using a spray dye from the local fabric store. This will be the splash of color amongst the green and brown. It looked dirtier before dyeing because I've been most un-cautious in my handling of it during the whole process. I'll just need to go back after it because the color I'm going for is "used to be orange before  the last decade of battles" Also thigh armor is done and the lower back plate is now attached to the girth belt (pulled off for paint and dyeing).



Ordered a buy'ce from Droodles; love the active ear vents and clean lines. Think that's all the major updates. On to the shin and knee armor!

So, shins and knees have been shaped. For the knees I re-sized the shoulder plate and finished out the flat from the shin plate. I have some .190" plate that I'm going to top the flat areas with that should give a nice 3D look. That will cover the holes in the knees that I had to make for the form I used to keep the flat area while shaping.

Wow! Superior metalwork, vod. Are your shins and knees gonna be one-piece "shinnees" style?

I'm purposely avoiding shinnees at this point. Because of the way these knees are shaped, with the pointed flat spot, I'm getting a lot of "float". I'm hoping to be able to pull it all together with leather strapping, that's the next step. That doesn't work I'll shift the transition to the shin and shape the knee more. Stay tuned...
