That's the same process that a lot of guitar makers use to do binding on the edge of the instruments.

I do not envy guitar makers.

vode I love the results from the sludge but working with it.....yeah....never again.....until next time  :P

PROGRESS REPORT!!!!!!!

Made a few repairs and am in the process of filling in low spots and pin holes. As you can see from the photos there are still some imperfections around the seams but I don't have time to work them out. I'm going to try but working out some of those rough patches will put me behind schedule. So we'll see how it turns out before I lay down the silver paint. I hope the weathering will disguise the mess a bit.

Thanks Niabi!

I messed it up in a few spots so I had to go back in use some spot filler. But even that didn't work all of the imperfections out. I figured rather than trying to fight the blemishes I decided to enhance them.

When it came time to put the masking fluid on (aka toothpaste) I decided to allow the silver to show through where the imperfections were. The plan was to make my mistakes look like battle damage.  8)

It's not perfect but I think it gets the job done and it prevented me from having to spend more time trying to patch and fill imperfections that nobody is going to see anyway.

I still have all of the weathering left to do as well as some overspray clean up but the construction and the base paint is done!

Please let me know what you think. I'd like to submit my application for membership in a day or two. I think the rest of my rig is ready but I'm not sure if the gaunts are up to standard yet.

As always thank you for any advice/criticism!

Thanks Solus!

I can not reiterate enough what kind of a pain in the shebs the sludge process is.

going from this....

to this....

...is more work than I'd care to ever do again. It sucks but it gets results and you're left with a solid piece of plastic.

I did end up using some spot filler in one or two areas but mostly just to fill in the small pinholes left behind by air bubbles and to even out some uneven areas.

FINALLY getting around to weathering these puppies.....

So far I've only got the right gaunt weathered. Should be able to get the left done tomorrow.

I also changed the way I have the outside seam closed up. The original method was using a simple 2x6in piece of industrial strength sticky velcro. It works like a charm to keep the gauntlet together. The problem is storage. I'd like to be able to break the gauntlet down into two pieces.

What I decided to do was keep the velcro in place but I sliced it down the middle so it no longer holds the gauntlet together. Next I sewed more velcro onto a couple pieces of elastic and put those inside the gauntlets. That way the gauntlet halves are securely held together as before but now I can just rip out the new elastic straps and store the bottom half of the gauntlet inside the top half for better storage.

I'll get some photos up of the new closure method if anyone wants to see it.

Lol fair enough Point.

Here is a quick shot of the gaunts with and without weathering. As soon as I'm done posting this i will be getting the other gaunt dirty. Not as dirty as the flamethrower but still pretty messy

Here is the old closure method. Just some sticky Velcro cut to fit and acts as a hinge. Works perfect. No problems.

But i travel a lot and that means Tyno goes into checked baggage. And apparently every baggage handler on the planet is a former WWE jobber. Because the gauntlets went in as one unit and they got beat up pretty good despite my packing efforts.

So I needed a way to keep them closed but also take them apart. Simplest solution was Velcro and elastic. Same method my Cpt Rex bucket opens and closes.

Now the gaunts can be broken down and stored a bit more safely to avoid damage caused by my suitcase being body slammed

Here is a close up of the detail on the flamethrower.
When I painted on the white detail stripe the paint cracked and spiderwebbed pretty bad. But as I was doing the "scorch" marks it kind of made the paint look as if it had been damaged by the heat. So it would seem Tyno has enough credits to buy a verp but can't afford heat resistant paint. Or maybe he's broke because he bought a verp
