So in case you hadn't already seen my WIP thread in Armor Planning, I would like to make a vibroblade that lights up, similar to the fist mounted version seen in Star Wars: Republic Commando.

Here is what I have so far:



It is unfinished at the moment. The painting is done, but it obviously needs a hilt which I am planning to build around the electronics.

I've done a little bit of googling around to see how I could light up that middle section, and at the moment I'm leaning towards creating a simple circuit consisting of a switch, a blue LED, and a 9v battery. I've also heard of EL wire, but I am unsure if that would work since the space I have cut out is kind of small.

I've also considered how I'm going to get the light to "fill" up that middle area like the RC blades, and the two ideas that have occurred to me would be to line the inside of the blade with reflective tape or find some sort of glass or other material that would allow the light to fill the area.

Do you guys have any suggestions or comments?

Either use an LED at either end OR line the inner edge with EL wire... then fill with semitranslucent epoxy.

Both are excellent ideas! I wlll definitely look into both the acrylic and the semitransluscent epoxy options. That is exactly what I had in mind, I just didn't know what to use.

That is a great idea, except for two reasons: 1) It looks like he used photoshop to make that glow and 2) his profile states that the last time he was active was late April.

If not for that, this would have been a great suggestion! It is very thoughtful of you to link that to me. Thank you Kraton! Also, good luck on your own build vod! I've seen your thread (I think in Armor Planning?) and it shows promise!!! Keep at it!

You could cut and sand a piece of clear acrylic or plexi and then sand the surfaces showing lightly so it's frosted...then light it from below with a single LED.
