Field medic W.I.P
« on: Oct 20, 2013, 12:59 AM »
Alright so I used to be a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and the thought of making a mando field medic really interests me. So i'm wondering if there are any other medics on here. I would love to see some completed kits.

My concept would be:
a red to maroon flight suit
a black black vest
the armor would be a shade of blue
I want to do a Kama along with a partial cape
thinking of adding a scarf for a little bit of personal flare
not doing a jet pack but instead and med backpack with another smaller med bag
my weapons with be two pistols with thigh holsters
both gauntlets would have extendable vibroblades but mostly look like portable med scanners and diagnostic tools
I want the helmet to look like it can sustain the wearer no matter what environment

I'm working on some images and and such and i promise i will post them once i have them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

These are some bags and pouches I'd planned to use on my kit to represent med bags and ammo pouches. Well that is if they are approved. I plan to make alterations to have approved if need be.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe if you use some of those bags you will have to cover up the zippers on them, to make them look less earthly. But other than that your idea sounds pretty solid. I know there are a few other medic type specialists on here, I just don't them by name.

So everything except for the zippers are acceptable on the bags correct? If anything I can try to find them without zippers. Gotta have space for my supplies.  :D  Just to make sure I'm clear on this but some of the armor can have exposed straps as long as they are not elastic. I ask this because I'm think of doing a mix of secured armor and removable. Kinda of a mission thing.   My last question is what about exposed knives? Do they have to look a certain way?

Medic Muster Roll
Ray'k's Kit
Darthmayhem's kit
Cajun
Cin Kyr'am
Darman501

Here is the list of current medics that have made it through.  They have helped answered some of my questions so far.

First, some points I would like to cover
  • Zippers ARE allowed on bags. The no 'visible' zippers rule applies to flight suit and armor/flak vest. Echo was correct that all earthly logos and writing must be removed or covered.
  • For exposed straps, they must be in-universe material such as tactical web belting and leather.
  • The exposed knife thing...just make sure its not real and looks like in could belong in the Star Wars universe
  • Ray'k, Darthmayhem, Cin, Darman, and myself are the current members of the medic brigade and are more then happy to help you.
  • Cin and Darman are the only ones that have a medical backpacks.
  • Rokeim Gekla is the Brigadier and incharge of all the Brigades. Deimos Ordo is the Brigade Marshal that is in-charge of the support division, which the medics fall under. Those 2 have the final say what is and is not acceptable for admittance into the medic brigade.

Work logs for examples of medics
Ray'k WIP - picture of complete kit on page 10
Darthmayhem WIP - picture of complete kit on page 8
Darman501 WIP (for official status)
Darman501 (for medic status) - picture of complete kit on page 1
Cajun WIP (ME!) - picture of complete kit on page 6

It appears that you are heading in the right direction. The only thing I have a problem with is having both a kama and a cape. Its just too much. There is nothing saying that you can't do it, but most that have tired end up going with one or the other.

what Cajun said ;)  :P

Personally im not a fan of the modern day tactical bags being used on Mandos, i think they look to recognisable (particularly Maxperdition ones)
I like old ww1 - 2 leather or canvas bags ;) they just look more star wars to me.

I might change the bags a bit, but those where the styles I was wanting to go with. Also, I planned on removing and tags and logos from them. Though I might make some bags myself. Still on the fence about it all. After thinking about it I've decided to do a Kama instead of a cape. It would be nice to do both but it's going to look to cluttered with both.

I am wondering if anyone would know a material similar to the under suits used by the republic troopers in the Old Republic game?

Still having trouble with a helmet design I like though.

This was another idea I had for the armor.

I'm digging on the bandolier/ pauldron idea.

Well that is a clone helmet I believe. So it wouldn't be acceptable, but you could definately add accents from that helmet to a traditional helmet, like the re-breather type part, or the fin on the top! I do think that pauldron would look very nice too.

Actually it's an Old Republic trooper helmet. I wish my drawing skills were a lot better. There are aspects of it I like along with the traditional helmets, but there are things I don't like about each.  The thing that really drew me to that helmet was the visor and re breather.

I'll figure it out.

You could modify the traditional T-visor, as long as it's still the traditional T. And like I said, you could put the re-breather on too! I'm almost positive I've seen something very similar to that somewhere! I'm liking alot of your ideas so far!

Upon looking a similar helmets to this one on tor-fashion it's actually not a fin. The way the re breather is set up on this helmet is it has two tubes that wrap around to the back of the helmet with the third one being the "fin". Also, as I looked at the helmets I noticed they have the indented checks like mandalorian helmets do. There a mando feel to the helmet in there all i have to do is bring it out so it's more pronounced.

Just curious on something, I'm going to use 6mm sintra for my armor; however I'm not sure what sheet size to buy. I would like some left over material for mess ups. I just do not want to much leftovers.

Then there is the whole flight suit debate I'm having internally. Part of me wants to go with the flight suite while another part of me wants a different look. I really loved the under suit the Republic trooper had on in the Hope trailer. I'm just not sure what material would be similar to that or if it would be acceptable to use at all.

Allons-y!!!!! I got it. I'll take the normal helmet modify the visor a bit, the fix up the re breather rig to that way it looks like a modification that I did myself, and I had a thought about instead of the having the tube on the top of the helmet I could get rid of it and incorporate a med scanner to my helmet. That way my mando could flip it down and see what's wrong right there on the spot.

Was wondering since all your pics are from TOR, are you going modern or Old Republic with your build? But for how much plastic you'll need, a 4x4 sheet will give you more then enough for the armor and enough to make a pack for you as well.

Have a good one,
Hagen

I'm going modern with my armor. It's just TOR has some really good design elements to it. Trying to get the med scanner to look distinct will be fun. I don't want it to end up looking like a flip down range finder. It's also nice to know I'll have more than enough sintra now, because you can only get them in 8'x10' sheets here.

Solid planning so far, Cajun nailed down all the good details  ;)

I highly recommend you use Canvas and Leather bags, pouches etc. for the Med Bags/gear. I am more than happy to help you find great stuff if you need it.

I was thinking about doing some of the major bags in leather and I'm working on designing my own backpack. What I was thinking about doing is instead of a jet pack making a rig that would have a bacta and kolto tank that would feed into the gauntlets and into the chest piece of my armor while having my backpack in between the tanks.

I'm working on that basis...just a single tank based upob a knapsack sprayer fed to a gauntlet-mounted spray nozzle. Slow progress so far though as I'm struggling to disguise the spray tank as anything other than a spray tank lol

Okay, so after some brain storming to today I've come up with some more ideas.

Instead of the original bags I showed I plan on using these now:

Along with my gear I'm going to make some Kolto and Bacta gernades:

Then I would like some clarification if I can use the following items:

A field surgery kit:

Buckles I'm thinking of using if allowed:

Lastly, I went back and forth a lot over this and I finally decided I'm going with a gun. So here it is:

Now to figure out how to make it. If anyone has any tips or knows someone who could make it for me please let me know.

Just curious but what type of boots are not allowed and what is?
