  • Now where did I put that hydrospanner!?
I started making a custom mando some time ago and just recently "finished" it. There is still lots of work to eventually be done, but I wanted to complete it so I could troop around on Halloween.
I have all of my main armor pieces complete except for wrist armor and something to wear on my back.
I currently have no flight suit and the helmet I have was painted way before the armor ever was so it has a difference with the frequency of the weathering (you'll see what I mean). I did the whole suit of armor on a budget.

Feel free to post opinions and ideas for my mando. This was my first weathering job and first build so I hope you enjoy it and can share some advice and ideas.  :P

i have a concern with your weathering vod, it looks very spotty.

this is my advice

with weathering bigger is not better ;) IE: do small scratches and pant chips not massive ones that end up looking like a splodge. but like wise lots of little chips can look spotty.

Plan your weathering before you start masking, for me when planing my weathering i like to have a story to each piece of weathering, and to link 2 or 3 pieces of weathering in to one story this helps to make the weathering more real as its not just  random splodges and scratches but an actual scenario you have gone though.

put your armour on and more in it so you can see where bits will rub and what’s exposed to dings ect. this will give you a better idea of weather natural weathering will be ;)

Yeah, the helmet was painted prior to all of the plates and it was my first try at weathering so i over compensated... a lot. I feel like I did a little better on the rest of the armor though. I tried thinking more when masking it where there would be damage, i do still need to do a black wash and some stenciled emblems on the armor to finish it up. but i am already planing the next variation of the paint job.

Its going to be blacked out but with metallic dry brushing on edges and inside crevasses.
and then here and there spots that are more heavily damaged such as a dent or gash that will have hints of the previous color scheme (black, purple, red, metallic and a hint of blue.

If you can picture that great if not maybe I can make a concept for the color scheme. Any other advice tips or ideas is much appreciated. Thanks!  8)

This image didn't keep its res with the app I used to make the blade.

Same rifle that is in the pics but this is the progress I've made so far modifying it.

You're on the right way man.

- Loose the light stick vod... You're a mando, not a saber jockey...  ;)
- Get some gauntlets.
- Get some boot armor to hide those laces.
- Make sure the top and the bottom of your flight suit are matching in color and material.
- Hide any logos you have on the kit (like the one on your gloves)
- Keep on modifying that rifle.

You still have a lot of work ahead of you but I think you're doing good.

Hey thanks! And its merely a trophy saber, I thought it would be cool to add the blade. Gauntlets are getting made after I have the new helmet I'm working on finished. I have been procrastinating for whatever reason on the simple task of cutting some boot armor. The flight suit will remain this way until I buy a real one.

Thank you for the response sir!  :D
P.S. I'm surprised you didn't make a comment about the overly weathered helmet XD haha. This will be fixed soon though. Uploading progress photos of the new helmet in a moment.

Yesterday I got a little carried away... I began building a Mando helmet inspired (in the length of the T-visor) by Darth Revan and Mandalore from the video games Knights of The Old Republic 1 and 2.

I do however feel like it needs more details/greeblies... So if anyone has some ideas that would help make it look better the would be much appreciated.

 Pivoting custom rangefinder concept.

The front of the helmet has a latching system that when released the front can pivot up and allow you to eat or drink.

The red part is a snow boarding helmet I got from goodwill a long time ago, I took out the foam protection because it was far too bulky. I drilled holes through the top of the helmet and front plate with the visor and then riveted them together.

Awesome, I am likely going to construct my helmet after I have the majority of my armor finished, but figured that planning and seeing other folks ideas will be helpful.

Your build looks pretty nifty, I am excited to see the finished product.

Sounds like a good plan to me! But in my case the thing that inspired me to make some armor was the purchase of a boba fett helmet that was later modified.

And thank you! Can't wait to see your armor come together!
