Light up wrist Blasters
« on: Jan 27, 2014, 05:26 PM »
Hi. I have 2 small toy flash lights with red lenses that light up when the button is held down. Is there a way to wire these to a button on my gaunts that when pressed flashes like a strobe light or pulses. Basically i want to be able to turn single flash light on when held mechanism to a repetitive flash, either when held or a toggle on and off.

I have pretty much zero experience with electronics and wiring.

Thanks

There is, but you will need to construct a flashing circuit for it. There are schematics all over the internet, but if you're just starting out with soldering and such, you may want to just rig it up so that the switch just turns them off and on. You can always upgrade later.

Ok. Something like this.

slap a 9 volt battery on it, then solder the wires from the chip to the "laser"?

Also, would this be a good simple kit to get the job done?

That soldering iron would do fine...you'd want to be using the smallest tip you can for a neater build.

The Velleman kit you assemble yourself....they are pretty easy to build as everything is documented pretty well.
Not sure it'd work in that application...what is the bulb for the 'laser'? LED? Actual laser unit?

If it's just an LED you'd just have to connect it to the LED spot on the velleman board.

No its not just an LED, its actually just a "flashlight" from a kid toy that is battery powered. Ill post a picture later tonight when i get home from work. The intention is to just wire the existing lights to a flash button on my gaunts.

Digging back to my electronics shop days back in high school but if you want it to flash I would use a NE555 timer chip (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062596) and use that to flash it. Its a very versatile little chip that is pretty durable and cheap that lets you vary the timing of circuits. Also there are tons of schematics out there to help you get the timing right. Then you can put the trigger anywhere that you want and it would flash it. I hope this helps you out.
