Leather and Boneplating!

I may use leather, but I'm going to go with brass, as it is a rebreather pack, and I just don't see how bone could be a structurally sound component for even rudimentary breathing packs.

Just because it does not seem real does not mean you should not attempt it. Remember this is Star Wars, they have giant ships that can jump from one side of the galaxy to the other in a few hours and have blasters and lightsabers and space stations the size of small moons. It does not need to be "stucturally sound" it needs to look like it came from the comics. Best way to do that, bone covering or leather. I think that bone would look best.

Personally I'd use a copper, possibly a bronze colour, as Adenn said he would. I wouldn't want to breath through a bone of some long deceased animal. And copper especially is easily shaped and worked - even easier than bone when I've tried.

I can see how painting with colours is slightly out of the style that was generally used in most of the reference pics, but metals are naturally occurring and just as easy to source as leather and bone. Been on a planet without any big animals and you'll never get bone and leather... so use what you have - easily refined and worked metal.

So i'm also working on a EC and doing bone like structures.  I was just planning on doing a fiberglass layer and then bondo, but i see you using the Jelly.  Tell me what thats like using that, and pros and cons against the other methods?

I use the jelly as more of a skinning procedure, as compared to what others use bondo for as a structure-forming product, of which is not it's intended use. Using too much of any putty like medium tends to run into problems with structural integrity, which is why I always use a constant forming tool (such as fiberglass, wood or steel) to make the main body, and accentuate with fillers (jelly/resin/bondo/etc...)

One of the main differences in using resin jelly as compared to bondo is that the base compound for it is polyester resin, the same compound used when sculpting with fiberglass, so the mediums meld in a way that no other would. The adherence factor. Like products just work better together.

I usually use fiberglass to get my main shape as perfect as possible, and then go over it with a skin of resin jelly to get those pesky last minute fixes/textures I cannot get with any other medium.

Been super swamped with commissions, so been a bit lacking in the EC dept. Planning on making a schedule for the kit to finish it.
