Here's what I have done so far.  It's a rub n buff base coat, now with a matte clear coat. The clear coat gulled it a bit, but doesn't seem to ruin the "metal" look of the finish.

After painting and weathering, the caps need alot more work, but thte pipes just need a wash to finish the weathering.

Have one of the caps done, the other had an issue when I removed the tape. Everything still need a paint wash for grime, What colors are recommended for that? Staight black and straight brown? I may also have to trim the pipes a bit if they feel/look  too long after I finish.

I use regular black and regular brown. Of course you can use different tints/hues of the colors. But I use them separate, not mixed.

Got a little more work done, when these are painted up I will have the tanks finished, I plan on a having a regulator separating the two tanks, which will have to wait until I get sintra in.

Looks good. I made my first pack from pvc pipes. Just be aware that they tend to get heavy after a long day trooping.

I can second this. PVC seems like a great material from the "fabrication and building" standpoint, but it gets heavy fast after walking around with it for a few hours. I made a bacta canister, and that thing got beyond obnoxious after a few hours of just standing around at a local Star Wars Day.

For my season 4/5 Pre Vizsla I opted for using FOR RENT signs rolled to the outer diameter of a 4 inch piece of PVC as my side tubes.  Then I filled them with Great Stuff expanding foam for stiffness.  A 12 inch tube filled with foam weighs 186 grams compared to an 8 inch section of 3" PVC at 231.  You can check out the pic on my Facebook page here:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204506391762388&set=a.10201430089056743.1073741826.1310542679&type=1&theater&notif_t=like
