1st Bucket Thread (Pic Hvy) - New Update 10/06 Weathered

Good Day All,

As the title says this is my First Mando Bucket.

First of i asked Saz for one of his Helmets and asked for 2 slight Mods
J'aing on the forehead and a Bullseye over the Right Eye

Next i did the cutting out

As you can see, my eye-line is blocked so i have drawn out areas to be cut too gain full vision

With these new cuts in place, also added a piece of off-cut to straighten out the look of the front

Next Stage was bonding / sanding / Bonding / Sanding  :o ... these pic's are too follow   ;D

Now the stage i am at as of Today!!  :o

Once all the imperfections had been sanded out, and i was very happy with it. i then gave it a couple of Coats of Chrome

The nicks and dints on the front and eye area and around the bucket i have left as this will add more weathering character to it.

So next step will be to Plastikote the inside then any touch-ups with bondo.
Then one last chrome spray then a Matt Coat to lock it in.

Then to start all the layering of paints & masking off "Fun" .... ill have to wait for funds $ first.

i hope you guys like it so far, i do have lots of sanding stage pictures  ;D
cheers

Might I provide a hint with bondo for future projects?

Don't ice it on like cake icing like in the pictures above and leave it.  Use a paint scraper or one of those plastic spreaders to spread it on nice and flat.  Make it MUCH EASIER for sanding.  When you leave it all bumpy and rough to dry, it means more work trying to get it flat and level.  But if you start flat and level, you have less to sand. :D

Thanks Taglar,

Yeah it was my first attempt at using bondo, so i just layered it on heavily too make sure everything stayed in place and didnt move whilst it was going off.

When i did the side piece i used the rubber blade i got with the kit and it seemed much more easier to sand down afterwards  :D if only i had tried that on the front.

But in all honesty i had so much fun sanding the front  ;D

But yes in future i'll be using the technique youve suggested above, it uses less bondo, makes less mess when sanding

thanks

Hello All

These next LOAD of pictures are all the base coating and Weathering done.
(Apart from the Black/Brown Washes).

The Next step is to Install Visor, Figure out what i'm going to do with the 2 RF Earwells and then the Gold Painted areas.

Now the Next 2 are the Dome parts... i am 50/50 on whether it is too match "Damage" on top or not.
What do you guys think?

Please any and all advice, be as honest as you like

Cheers

My view is that the weathering you've placed looks a bit 'isolated' in places. Yes there is some heavy damage but it's in a concise are surrounded by totally new looking paintwork.
I'd be tempted to just dirty up some of the large undamaged areas.

I agree, the really shiny side could use a few scratches. I do love that chipping style though! Reminds me of a snow leopard for some reason (this is a good thing ;)).

The original general idea was normal Wear/Tear on front, and helmet standing on its dome when im not wearing it.
And then like shrapnel damage behind the ear.

So i have added more scuff scratch marks and scuffs to the other cleaner sides ;D
Mwahahah

Im not too sure if its the natural light outside, or  the inside light, or the camera.
But these Marks are way more distinctive than the Photos shown

Still needs the Washes though  ;D

The shrapnel damage caught my attention.  I like it.  I do think that with catching shrapnel like that, the blast would have thrown the wearer down, so yeah, scratches to the opposite side are good.  Not to mention some serious meds for the fierce headache the wearer would have afterwards.  :o  Looks good so far!

I'm loving the bullseye! It's a very personalized feature and tells a little about what kind of character wears it. Really awesome work so far, keep it up!

Looks good and dirty, decent weathering and such.  I'm fond of the "double range finder" concept, truth be told...  Really not digging on the lack of the full t-visor.  Just hack off that last inch at the bottom, and it'll look substantially better.

Yeah I eased the Pain with Jawa Jerk & then followed by Bantha Milk Icecream :D

The idea was to have something slightly different but not too extreme

The last inch at the end was to straighten-out and strengthen the Face, I do agree it would look better being a Full-T, but I am more than happy with this Damaged supporting strip.

Still not sure what to do with the Double Rangefinder as yet, I  am open to all weird and wonderful suggestions.  I was potentially thing of Bucket mounted micro-binoculars!

Thank you all for your comments
