Broken Don Post Vinyl Boba
« on: Mar 14, 2015, 02:15 PM »
I have a few questions ,1. Is a Don Post 1995 vinyl Boba Fett acceptable, if so 2 how can I repair reshape a vinyl helmet?
I have had this for years as a display piece and it was recently damaged while moving. There is a small crack just above the visor that I would think could be patched, but I am not sure with what or how. Other than that a large piece of the molded in visor is broken out causing the helmet to collapse in the front, when opened back up the helmet looks to be quite nice. Any advice is acceptable Vod, and I thank you...

Cracks can be fixed with a patch of fibreglass on the underside to strengthen it and the crack on the front can be filled with bondo or other filler of your choice and sanded smooth, as for your first question, I think a more experienced member may be better answering that one.

I'm with you on this, it is a question probably best answered by a more experienced member, however, I know there are Rubies jango 2 pieces out there that have had to endure a lot of modding. The only thing that raises caution to me is the material that was used to create this.

Actually Vod the most you have to mod on a j2p is reinforce the seam/bondo fill the gap, fill the gap on the Earcaps so that it's one piece and possibly change out the visor(I think that's a must) and repainted to the desired effect. You might be thinking of the Hasbro Boba Fett as it does require a significant amount of adjustments in order to be approved.

Now on the Don Post helmet I beleive (not 100%) that pre-1996 Don Post Boba Fett helmets are allowed but your best bet is always going to be to ask an app team member for proper clarification. As Demor already said give that Bucket a nice patch and bondo the places that need better smoothing. Just don't forget that you will most likely get the best results to sand the areas to be fixed(read the whole helmet) so that your resin and auto body filler and paint of choice will properly adhere to the surface. By no means am I an expert on vinyl or even modding existing helmets as I tend to do quite a bit of scratch building of helmets with various bases in order to get the helmets I've made done. Also pictures would be quite helpful for building tips and suggestions in the future. Greatest of luck vode!

Must have been the hasbro. Not entirely with it... But my point was the vinyl isn't truly up to the heat. I had one go all bloopy when exposed to the heat.

Thank you to all previous responders! After doing some deep archive searching, and some time at TDF, I have concluded that the DP95s are used frequently. Since most of the damage to this particular bucket was sustained in an area that would have needed to be removed anyway, I have decided to go ahead with the newification of this dusty, dented, busted bucket. Pics and wip to soon follow.
