Question about Late Crusader Build
« on: Nov 16, 2014, 05:42 PM »
I have a coloring question for late crusader era.  It was brought to my attention that a lot of the reference pics have very brightly colored armors.  I was thinking about making a late crusader era sniper in several muted grey to white tones working on perhaps an icy planet like Hoth or Belsavis.  demagol is featured in KOR comics of that era and is monochromatic.  I was planning on a white armor but light grey flight suit, silver metal bolts and damage and shading...some grey shading and bolts on my bucket and weapons, polarized blue grey visor and some blue LEDs.  I just wanted to blend into the background like a good sniper should.  Ideas? Also, still working 4/5 Pre/Vizsla ...just have had a serious concussion and had to rest up a bit.

I was asked by my clan if I would be adding any fur.  Here was my response:  thank you for all of your help!

Yes I can put some lining in my bracers.  My mom grew up I'm Alaska so we have a few pelts as well as actic fox and Dahl sheep.  I found and interesting leather today to possibly use as a kamas.  Any other ideas  would be greatly appreciated :). Here is that leather I was talking about making a kamas with.  It is the color of a filthy snow bank and since I may be laying around waiting fir my target I thought, "perfect!".

Also about a kamas...does it have to be EXACTLY hemmed straight around?  I mean what about the elements, ferocious killer bunnies (they had huge teeth!) camp fires, etc.  I just like the natural weathering effect this leather already has .

I say you should go for it.    So says the monochormatic OM Late Crusader.

Have a look at my kit.   I tore the hell out of the kama.   Definitely don't suggest a clean hem. ESPECIALLY for a sniper.

Next question.  I found a chest where I really like the neck piece and the shape (the extra guard) on the cheek.  Is there a way to alter or make this chest late crusader.  I believe it was modeled after a swtor idea.  I just really like the neck cowl and the cheek guard.  I think it would go along well with my cold weather sniper outfit.  Thoughts?

One more question. In one of the ref pics on the late crusader page he's wearing a ribbed flights unit.

Is this allowed?  That would go great with a cold climate mando.  I actually found a site that sells premise clone ones and will make custom mando ones.  http://www.clothearscostumes.com/portfolio/clone-undersuit/

I see no reason why that chest plate in the first pic couldn't be approvabe as Late Crusader as it stands, but I am not app team.  The plate itself is not all that different than mine,  with an added gorget and pauldrons.  Plus the hoses are highly recommended for Late Crusader but not mandatory.  I don't know about the green tab hanging down dead center.   Late Crusaders are NOT allowed to have a chest diamond in any form.  To me it looks like maybe that is what that tab was supposed to be, perhaps leave it off or design the silver part of it to very specifically NOT be a traditional chest diamond shape or confused for on.   Maybe make yours a rectangle or something just to avoid that issue entirely if you aren't dead set on that particular shape.  I would say you have a valid concept with that.  By contrast, I'd argue that the lower picture's chest looks too NeoCrusader.   I know that wasn't what you were asking though.  The CRLs don't state anything against a quilted/ribbed flightsuit and there are other visual precedents with it so I'd say you should be safe.

I am planning on cutting out a pattern for my top part of the breastplate (not the ab part).  To make this SWTOR armor top work for late crusader,  how far can I allow the hard part go under my arm pit area like on the photo, keeping in mind I am also going for sniper.  (Range of motion etc),

You can go full clamshell if that is what you want.   In my kit with a one-piece chest like that the biggest restriction is actually putting my arms straight ahead, no real impediment backward or down.  Zophar will never be able to do the zombie walk.

The late crusaders have a great amount of freedom in the design and color schemes of their armor. If you have not already, take a look at some of the Knights of the Old Republic comics in this link: http://nukecd.com/cayce/mandcomix/

So long as you meet the requirements of the CRL's and make a "quality" kit you you will go far.

Mine and my wife's kits are late crusader and we went with desert color schemes. The armor designs are based on characters from KotOR. If you want to see what we did, my WIP is in my signature below and my wife's WIP is HERE. We are currently upgrading our kits to meet the requirements for Desert Ops Brigade (me) and Recon Brigade (wife).
