My Molan Labe fiberglass helmet build!
« on: Feb 15, 2015, 09:16 PM »
So in my link you can see my old helmet but ended up on getting this one instead.

As you can see it a was B-pull helmet so I needed to do some bondo work but it turned out nicely!

once it was all sanded and primed, I put down a base silver coat.

After that I taped off the places I didn't want black and sprayed my hammered black over top.

This is the blue pain I then used after the black weathering coat.

Then I proceeded to tape off everything I didn't want to make blue and just sprayed! (I used SOOOO much tape luckily my grandpa had a stock pile xD)

Painted the stalk the same aluminum silver as the helmet and armor, then sprayed to top blue. sorry I didn't get a picture of the finished product but it's on the helmet.

And then POOF there she is!

(Please note. I have not cut out where to put the visor I'm hoping to take it into robotics and do that, I also have not decided how to mount the piece that goes on the outside of the stalk near the bottom, but I'm working on it)
Thanks everybody please leave any feedback, questions and suggestions!

A far superior helmet to the first attempt. Keep it up.

It's spelled "Canon", not "Cannon".

(SHHH!!! I found the secret to getting OM approved!)

Thanks, That's what my dad said so hopefully I can get that done. Thanks everyone! I'm hoping to cut out the visor at robotics tonight and then I'll post a pic with the visor installed and everything! Suggestions on what I should use to install the visor?

Velcro or hot glue seem to be the preferred methods.

Go on eBay for neodymium magnets. They're cheap and directly from the source. :)

And I always swear by hot glue for the visor.

Hey I hope this gets more interest! Anyways I finished the helmet, put in a suspension system from a hard hat to keep it from moving, I also cut out and placed the visor and glued it in with E-6000, (I love it and my dad uses it for everything now!) So here it is!

I also glued on the ear piece thing with E-6000 hoping I don't have to take it off..!

Thanks guys I'd love any and all feedback, comments and suggestions. Thanks!!

Well it's been a while but I've still done a little work to this helmet including and black and brown wash, along with a voice amp, LED brow strip, and detachable ear cap with magnets!

Thanks!

Looks pretty cool vod, how does the led brow strip effect your vision
What's your opinion on the voice amp, I'm thinking of a voice amp/ speaker set up, also adding a few small leds to my bucket

Thanks! the LED brow strip doesn't affect my vision to badly however at the right angle it can show my face if not wearing a balaclava and will also show how dirty my visor is. Now, this is all with a standard tinted visor from T-Visor.com, mirrored visors may be different. I love the voice amp, it works amazingly and was considerably cheaper compared to many of the Aker voice amps many others have and as far as I can tell works just as well compared to my fellow clan-mates.
