Dying Dickie Coveralls
« on: Mar 11, 2015, 09:35 AM »
So I have this pair of Dickie Coveralls in the Dark Navy color http://www.amazon.com/Dickies-Sleeve-Blended-Coverall-Regular/dp/B005HJ8P4C/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422455075&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=dickies+one+piece+suit

Anyway, I am not happy with the Dark Navy color and want to dye it black or dark gray. I've tried to search for a tutorial but they are for different model flight suits and coveralls and I was wondering if anyone had experience with dying this specific model, and if not, would other tutorials work? Here is the best one that I have found http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=33831

Also, if someone could give me advice on how to dye, I would greatly appreciate it as I've never done it before, lol

Thanks!!

Lady Bedlam

With it being 65% polyester,  I doubt it can be dyed at all.   Polyester doesn't take dye.  If someone knows of a way to make it that would be awesome but we have not found a way.

Thank you, though! Hopefully I can make it work or if someone has a tutorial elsewhere. I appreciate the advice!

Here's what I wanted to have with the dark gray flightsuit

And here is the same color scheme with the flightsuit I have now

What do you think of it? Do you think that the dark navy flightsuit looks out of place with the blue color scheme? Should I change the colors? Thanks for the feedback

Echo what lady bedlam said. I Tried to dye 65/35 poly cotton blend. You will NOT be able to do it with RIT dye. I tried. I even used that exact Ghost buster tutorial which is horse crap.

One option ( i have not tried) is to use a synthetic dye. Dharma trading is the way to go for buying it.

If your wanting gray coverall just buy gray coveralls. SPeaking from expierince as I went thorugh 3 flight suits trying to dye them. Just buy the coveralls they have light and dark gray. Nother linky below. :) Good luck.

Thanks for letting me know about that tutorial! Saved my life, lol. But I would buy a new one, and I might, but I don't think they'll have the Dark Grey in my size (Medium short I think). They have Dark Olive or something like that but I rather not have the green tint to it. Plus it's expensive considering I got mine for $30 and I still have to buy a vest for $80 and my helmet for $150. It might not sound like a lot but I'm a high school student with a minimum wage job working two days a week  :)  In the summer is when I make most of my money as I work for my family during then and hopefully, especially in July, I'll be able to drop a couple hundred easily on my kit so I might buy a gray one then. Especially since I won't be able to apply until August (18th bday). But thank you for all the advice you've given about the tutorials. I really appreciate it!
