Kar'ta Tionas' Armory
« on: Jun 13, 2015, 02:55 PM »
Here's the beginning of my armory.  Ideally, by the time I finish this kit I want to be a walking arsenal.  One can never have too many weapons.  :)  I'm aiming for an eventual Urban Assault/Force Hunter combo so that is influencing my initial weapons list.

Current loadout plans:
Verpine Shatter Rifle (short for Urban Assault) - work has begun and is coming along pretty well. more progress and maybe even paint in the next week or so
Set of throwing knives - WW2 era design found and a set of 3 throwing knives is in progress
Beskad - Design in progress
Westar Pistol - In progress.  Next step - bondo holes/seams and sand
Mini Grenades - Sonic Distractors in progress -
Couple other grenades - working on some PVC pipe ideas (see below).  Need to finish up and repaint.  Also planning to order a couple cryoban grenades
Door Breaching Explosive - I have 2 half-dets nearly finished.  Thoughts on whether these qualiffy as "door breaching" or "overkill"?

Here's the start to a couple of grenades that I may or may not end up using.  The one on the left is based off of this tutorial: (http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=41090.0)   The big differnce is that I used a half inch pipe coupling instead of the one inch one.  I still need to fill the inside and cap off both ends with greeblies.
The grenade on the right is from another pipe coupling I found at Home Depot.  The top is unfinished and will be rounded off.  The initial piece of pipe reminded me of the old style grenades with handles attached (think potato masher grenades). Bonus:  the handle can be pushed in to shrink the grenade down or pulled out for throwing.

My toy westar pistol.  I've drilled several holes into it to fill the space with hot glue in an attempt to add some weight.  The screwholes were already filled from my last Mando I couldn't just open the gun up to fill it with weights, so I improvised.

Pic of the gun in it's old holster.  I've actually found a great tutorial over on the Dented Helmet for holster making and I may give that a shot if I can get ahold of the materials. If not I'll probably rip off the garment leather, sand/smooth the fiberglass down, and then reapply a different colored leather.

I picked up some Spy Gear Sonic distractors for about $5 the other day and have started minor modifications to turn them into grenades.  My favorite feature has to be the glowing lights.  Here are the originals:

Here they are with screw holes filled.  I didn't have any bondo putty lying around so I improvised with Apoxie sculpt, hopefully that will hold.  I'm hoping to get them all painted up in the next few days.

I've finally started my Verpine!  :)

Here's where I'm at currently:

I'm designing this to come apart for easy luggage storage and am planning to use bolts to hold the front grip to the main body of the gun.  The barrel concept is still in progress, but I've got a few sizes of PVC pipe and about 2 feet of copper pipe to play with.  I also need to work on a scope concept and line up some greeblies for the main body of the gun.  Hopefully I'll get some more work done in the next few days.

More progress on the Verp today.  Lots of sanding on some of the smaller pieces and I've still got a lot more sanding to come as I begin to bevel the edges.  None of these pieces are attached yet, though hopefully that's in the near future.  I also started some work on the first part of the barrel.  Chances are I won't need all of the drilled section, but I don't really want to have to try to expand the pattern later.  The plan is for this to serve as the longer inner barrel within a shorter section of 1.5" pipe.

Recieved both of my half-dets from Teilyr Farsel.  http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=95857.0
They are absolutely gorgeous and I'm looking forward to getting them painted up this week.

Progress on the half-dets and repainting of my mini explosives.

Yeah, they look better filthy.

I also started on a throwing knife concept.  I'm planning 3 of these  in total and they should look close to this by the time they are finished:

Current sketch:

Progress on 1st throwing knife. It's 8 inches in length and is currently drying after the 5th coat of primer. Hopefully by priming, sanding, priming, sanding..... I should be able to largely eliminate the wood grain before doing the final paint job and weathering. (8/8 - adding to post to avoid double posting)

I'm also working on a beskad concept and was wondering whether the 18" mentioned in the books refers to tip to pommel or tip to crossguard. Wookiepedia was not specific.  Thoughts?

New verp photos to come in the next few days

Everything's looking good so far vod.

I love the Sonic distractors. I may have to steal that idea from you.  :)
They kinda remind me of "droid poppers" from TCW. Think I could rivet the belt clip holder for them to my ammo belt.

Keep up the great work. Look forward to seeing how the verp turns out.

Thanks!   As far as the sonic distracotors go,... Steal away!  I got the idea from some other mercs and I really love them.  I think Walmart sells them for about $10, but I bought a "used" set (damaged packaging) from Amazon for less than $5 shipped.  cheap and they look awesome. I had a friend over the other day who saw them and instantly went "themal detonators! But I think they're a bit smaller than they're supposed to be."  While they aren't thermal dets, he recognized them as explosives and that's good enough for me.

Crossing fingers for more knife pics and a few verp photos later this evening.

Yeah, a little small to really be thermal dets. I was thinking more on the lines of small emp grenades aka droid poppers.

At least that would be my intended use for them if they were real.  I found some new one's for $7.49 on the Kohl's website. Think I'll order 2 sets.

I'll be looking for the knife and verp photos. :)

Yeah, I've been considering picking up a second set and adding a few mini emitter nozzles and a some other mods to make small smoke grenades.  I may do that eventually, but I already have my eye on a couple cryoban grenades so I'm waiting to see how my final belt load out looks.  I believe in heavily armed mandalorians, so I'll probably have quite the variety happening eventually if all goes to plan.  For now though, the focus is on getting official and having something workable

Verp progress is coming along and once I figure out a barrel attachment, glue those 1/4 rounds in place, sand a bit, and spot fill  I will be nearly ready for painting some primer on and getting the base of the verp really smoothed out. After that I can go greeblie crazy and really swarzy this thing up.  I probably have at least a few days work left in front of me.

The first throwing knife after a ridiculous amount of priming and sanding.  It's really smooth now, so hopefully it will look amazing when I finish up the paintjob.
