Verpine-based Long-barrel Sniper Rifle
« on: Jun 30, 2017, 01:16 PM »
Being undecided on an already in-Universe blaster, I'm taking elements of a few of my favorites to come up with my own.  While I understand that the Verpine is already unique to the Mandalorians, I've never liked the short barrel of the design.  With that in mind, I have been working on a Long-barrel version at our clan's shop night with help from fellow Mandos.

- I've started with the standard Verpine template for the body, but instead of MDF I am using a nice oak 1x8 I found.

- Going with a 36" wooden dowel for the barrel.  I started with a 1 1/8" but didn't like it so I have since replaced it with a 7/8"

- Trimming the side plates from 6mm Sintra

- Holding everything together temporarily to get the feel of things.

- I'm still working on a barrel end to make it more Swarzy, but before we get to the flash hider, I am thinking that this part from a 3D printed blaster will make a great greeb for under the barrel.

This is the progress that has been documented so far, will update as it progresses.

I like the direction this is going!  Granted, a 36" barrel is a bit of overkill for what amounts to a railgun, but there's no kill like overkill ;D

I also used a oak plank for the body of my Verp. Just from my own experience, I'd reinforce the grip and any other narrower piece. I dropped mine, and the grip and stock snapped off.

Forward Progress!

- Most of the pieces sitting together for a better look and option #1 for scopes...  However it is a little flimsy.

- Scope option #2

-  Flash Hider

- Looking to make the barrel removable for transit.  The main body is glued together, the PVC reducer is going to be glued to the sintra and looking at options to thread the barrel to for stability.

- Clamped the barrel to the body to get a better look.  Getting closer!

It's been a while since I've been able to work much on the rifle, but now that my kit's app is in process and I'm updating a few other things, I thought I would update here.

The back pieces are all now attached and the first round of primer is on.  Once I finish my next round of armor fixes submitted, I'll get back onto finishing this!
