Finish sanding done, three primer coats, and two silver base coats.
Once these have cured she gets a wet sanding, and I can start on the colors.

I want the colors to match my armor plan, so the colors will be rusty brick red (main), Ahsoka Tano orange (secondary), and bare metal highlights.
Still haven't decided which layers on the buckle get which colors (red/orange/metal?, orange/metal/red?)

Looking for your opinions on this. What do you think?

Thanks :)

Looks great, Dave Filoni would be proud of “ Ahsoka Tano orange”.

Hey vod! I'm suuuuuper interested in your belt/girtle thingy. I picked up some scrap leather from Michael's and I'm thinking of making good use of it. Did you actually rivet the belts on or was it a riveter for leather work?

Attached the belts to the backing with Chicago screws. Also mounted Chicago screws into the back of buckle to attach it.

Could I just go to Home Depot and get these Chicago screws or where do you recommend?

Can you to get someone to make a cast before you attach it? That really needs to be availible to others. Im sure multiple member ls who do helms would oblige. Id like ti own one myself.

Funny, I was actually thinking about that....and teaching myself to do castings :)

Might give that a try before the paint goes on.

OK, I just started on the scary part of the buckle build...
Paint products and I have had a tempestuous relationship over the years. Here's hoping I don't screw this up :)

Masked the skull with frog tape so will show through the base metal.

Next step I'm not sure of, so looking for advice.
The scrollwork off the sides of the skull will be in my "Ahsoka orange". Should I try to mask off the red background and spray the orange? Or maybe spray in a cup and paint by hand. The masking would be tricky i think, but hand painting doesn't look quite the same.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

You may get closer to the spray look if you use a sponge to paint it. Also, if you sand it all after it might end up looking pretty uniform.

Well,my impatience answered the question for me...

I was worried that the masking would be difficult to remove once the paint was fully cured, so i pulled it early :(
It peeled at the edges, so I have to hand paint to fix it. Might as well hand paint all of the rest of it.

Bit of a delay...
The orange paint I am using, when I sprayed it into a cup to do the touch-up with a brush, it separated and had an unpleasant reaction.
Cleaning up the mess and figuring out if I can match the color in another brand.

Ed:
OK, on to a new addition to the belt/softparts collection...

Since Mercy is modeled after a more primitive cultural warrior rather than a military vibe, and since this Scotsman isn't allowed to wear a kilt...
Here's my soon to be belt pouch...

Traditional Scottish sporran. Leather with genuine black and white rabbit....um...I mean ewok fur!

The question I have is:
Has anyone out there ever colored or weathered real fur?
Id like to go with an orangish color like an akul.
I don't know how it would take a dye, and even thinned paint I'm afraid would come out looking gloppy.

Any thoughts?
