How about hair dye? I can't see a reason that wouldn't work :)

LOL! I feel totally retarded for not thinking of that!
That would be perfect.

Thanks :)

Now that I'm getting comfortable with a sewing machine, I've picked up on my soft parts again.

Cape is in the works, and here's my idea for an armored loin based on a togruta sash.

Sintra needs a prime and paint, then attached.

The cape is off to a good start, and the fastening scheme I came up with seems to be working well.
The one bit I can't figure out is the "scoop" in the back. I don't know how to finish it. My pattern is 100% freehand and I don't know how a real cape-maker (if that's even a word) would make what I want.

The one picture I found that describes what I'm looking to do would be this one. I'm pretty sure I found it here on the mercs site, but I have no idea who it is.

Anyone know who this mando is?

He gets the "loop" by folding over the top half the way you would a sock. And then you just have to fold higher or lower for a bigger sash portions.

I thought he had it in two separate pieces - the sash, and a long straight part. I could be remembering wrong though.

I would look up "cape pattern with cowl" like this ...http://tyrfing-plus.tumblr.com/post/95208202505/references-of-my-hooded-cowl-as it's showing the cowl being a hood, but it kind of gives you an idea about what you'd need to do to get the right shape. Only problem (that I see) is that it would show the interior of the fabric unless it was arranged properly.

IMO, the Mando pic you posted with the rust coloured cape definitely is two pieces, the cowl/hood and the cape itself. Why I would say that it's not all one piece is that the bottom cape piece looks like it's pleated *shrugs* Good luck! I know it will turn out great :)

Armored sash is finished. Pleased with how it came out.
I was also thinking about those rank braids that some folks wear over their shoulder, I figured I'd try something like that...Mercy style...

The braid was pretty simple...paracord with camo-colored beads (from WallyWorld) with a thin leather strip braided up its length.
Then it got a very wet brownwash, a very light spritz of black spraypaint to age it, a light spritz of Gold Bond foot powder to give it a dusty look (don't laugh...it works :) ), and finally a shot of satin clear to act as a fixant for all of the weathering.
