"Scorpion" Mando WIP
« on: Jul 10, 2015, 12:53 AM »
I need to explain this one...  I built a Dragon Age - Cole helmet for my teenager and my plan A was not working the way I hoped so I started a plan B which worked great.   I kept the plan A piece which was a Bondo/Fiberglass shell with great stuff foam for shaping - Since I don't like to just dump materials away that have "potential for something - later" ... (as I say to my wife) LOL.

The "later" is my first Mando Helmet (at least I hope).  Some cutting, Epoxy putty and I off to a promising start.

After this point, I was trying to ad lower extensions and starting to think "What the Bantha fodder was I thinking".
I almost gave strapped the idea of continuing but another $10 epoxy putty and I thinking it will work out now.
Adding the face mask next - "fingers crossed".

Finished paint on my scorpion detail.

Dry fitting face shield and made a discussion to add a visor.

Copper paint on white "window film", used in vehicle graphics - applied over clear, which I cut from old grinding face shield.

What did you use to seal your great stuff so you could bondo over it?  I ran into a problem where the bondo sucked the life out of the foam and basically turned it into nothing.  I've heard puzzle glue works, just curious as to your method.

I used two part epoxy putty over the great stuff.  All the final shaping and it works as an adhesive as well as a way to re-enforce the pvc pieces.

Here is a link to the product I used... I have used a full trial size to modify this helmet (http://www.smooth-on.com/Epoxy-Putty-Free-F/c1390_1408/index.html

Much more epoxy ...  used as filler, adhesive and shaping.

I think I need to be done building the bucket now.
I have spend to much time on it.

I kind of made my visor a cross between a cowboy hat and the scout trooper.
Due to the fact I live in Arizona (Dea Sea) and I plan on building a Mando Speeder next.

That helmet is awesome!

I've been kind of wanting to do a Brim around the whole helmet for a future helmet, but I think your setup works a lot better.
